Hyperguy.net Glossary
« on: May 16, 2006, 06:49:46 pm »
http://site.hyperguy.net/?gadget=Glossary

I've been working on a glossary for the site.  So far what I've written's based based on my perspective. Basically we've got a rich history and I want to preserve it and have something for new people to read up on.  Here's what I have so far:

Hyperguy.net Glossary

Because you really need to know what the hell we’re talking about when we’re not making any sense.

WTF?! No pronz?!!: A catch phrase originating from Viper F40 gif, a single gif you can download from the Viper F40 site that is basically an animation of Lilia from Viper F40 standing up from a bed and walking off camera while a disillusioned Mark watches.  At the end of the gif the phrase “WTF?! No pronz?!!” appears, reassuring the user that despite being a gif from a Viper hentai game, that the gif contains no hentai whatsoever.  All this happens in the gif while in the bottom right corner a smiling face of Ratty changes to an immediate frown as she turns to look at Mark and the lack of pronz in the scene.

Viper F40 Site: a joke site I made for a fan who wouldn’t stop asking if there was a Viper F40 Site.  Of course, there never has been one, so I created one so we could all have a good laugh.

Pron: a common misspelling of the word porn.  However, because it sounds much cooler, it’s used almost as often (on the internet).

Bandwidth Limit Exceeded: A common error page on Hyperguy.net before bandwidth was upgraded.  Because of the popularity of the site’s gallery, bandwidth was almost always consumed before the end of the month, leaving visitors to contend with a “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” page.  It became such a common occurrence that it became a memorable catch phrase in its own right.

Coolness Limit Exceeded: A parody of the phrase “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded”. People who visited Hyperguy.net on April 1st of 2006(April Fool’s Day) found themselves viewing a “Coolness Limit Exceeded” page explaining that the site was no longer functioning because it’s coolness had been used up.

Viper RSR Site: An April Fool’s joke inspired by the original Viper F40 Site.  Viper RSR site featured gifs of Elan, Cala, and a brown turtle from the game Viper RSR rocking out on warlock guitars to a heavy metal rendition of Moete Hero.

I’ll send you the _____ via helicopter wate whut?!: Originally started on the message board HigherVoltage.net when clueless poster Bruthaman made yet another thread asking for something he could have found easily via a google search, in this case, an X-box vga cable.  The thread degraded into posters lining up to make fun of him spouting such phrases as “I can eat peanut butter, but not in sandwiches,” “I can walk with the animals, but I can’t talk with the animals,” and similar phrases in the form of [Being able to do something, yet not able to when it’d be useful.]  Like for example, “I can breath, but not oxygen” or “I can stand, but not while on the ground.”  Finally, before spiraling into further stupidity someone jokingly made the comment “I’LL SEND YOU THE VGA CABLE VIA HELICOPTER WATE WHUT?!” and so, the meme was born.

Transport Huey: a much more powerful helicopter used for transporting equipment.  As far as Hyperguy.net’s concerned, it’s JG’s preferred method for receiving files.  “Send it via transport huey!” he’d say.

EB Games: EB Games gets a mention because of its connection to a Viper Thumbnail Theatre where Viper F40’s Raika calls them via phone and asks for 10 copies of the obscure, vintage Japanese PC game Galactic Guardian Guynarock-R.

Viper Thumbnail Theatre: a fine theatrical rendition made up of thumbnail images that parodies Viper characters and the thread its posted in.  It was started by myself and JG00 on the original Bakunyuuku Baka board.  Sadly, the very first Viper Thumbnail Theatre was lost when that board died, but the spirit lives on in its immediate follow up, which consequentially was a parody of the original parody.  The original featured Viper characters fighting over which series was better, Viper GTS or Guynarock, Raika phoning EB games for the first time, and a tender moment between Akira and Saki where Saki asks Akira if she originally wanted to be queen of the underground rock people.  The parody of the original appeared in exactly the same format, but with different content.  As a final note, Cole Tyger’s credited for first calling it Viper Thumbnail Theatre, a name that has been synonymous with funny, entertaining forum antics involving Viper characters ever since.

Gunyarock: the mispronunciation of Guynarock by Raika.  Each time she calls EB Games they tell her that they don’t have the game, and because she always mispronounces its name they probably never will carry a copy. Also, she always demands 10 copies of the game every time she calls.

GUNYAROCK 4 LIFE: In an attempt to sound ghetto gangster, the blonde haired leader of the Guynarock team uses the phrase “GUNYAROCK 4 LIFE” to announce just how hardcore the “Gunyarock” crew is.

Rape Button: a phrase created from a Hyperguy.net banner of the game Tokimeki Check In.  The banner shows Takayuki Yamano and Ayumi getting married, and has a thought bubble that says “Should have pressed rape button” over Takayuki’s head as he begrudgingly walks down the aisle.  “Should have pressed rape button” is a reference to a scenario in Tokimeki Check In where you have the option to rape Ayumi, ruining your chances of marrying her.  Because the choice is so immediate, it literally becomes the equivalent of either pressing a “rape” or “don’t rape” button.  Hence, the phrase “rape button” was born, or the button you press when you need to make a split second decision as to whether you should rape the female in front of you or not.

Tokimeki Check In!: an English hentai game where you play as Takayuki Yamano, the young manager of a traditional Japanese Inn, complete with hot springs.  During the course of the game, if your character gets drunk you’re presented with a scenario where you choose whether or not to rape the Inn’s maid Ayumi, who also happens to be a love interest and childhood friend of Takayuki. The options presented to you are literally “Rape Ayumi” and “Don’t Rape Ayumi”  My friend Doug who played the game reportedly choose to rape the maid.  “Doug, how could you!” I yelled at him.  The game mainly gets mentioned here because of its connection to the “rape button” inside joke discussed elsewhere.  On its own, Tokimeki Check In! is a solid hentai game well worth the fifty dollars I paid for it and was the first hentai game I ever played.  Having played my fair share of hentai games I still stand by that statement.

Don’t Rape the Maid!: A board game thought up by Snow Puma and friends. I’d really like to see it become something.  The way it was explained to me it’s basically based on the scenario in Tokimeki Check where Takayuki gets drunk and you’re given the option to rape Ayumi or not.  I’d imagine it’d play something like Clue or Mouse Trap.  Man, having a real ‘Don’t Rape the Maid!’ board game would rock! (Hyperguy: “Aww, Doug!  You raped the maid again! Just what’s your problem?” Doug: “But I scored the most points!” HG: “Ah, Doug, who could hate you!”)

Sooo cool!: the accompanying text to Viper F40 site, which to this day continues to inspire millions to speak up about things they like.  Also, Viper F40 site is the coolest! Use your eyes! (Ed. Hey, I thought this glossary was for explaining obscure inside jokes, not making them!)

SUP GUYS FRIED CHICKEN: One day me and JG were talking over AIM about how weird it would be if other people performed Viper Thumbnail Theatre.  Then I mentioned about how stupid some people would be about it, and about how there’d be no continuity, and how it’d basically be one of us setting up the joke first followed by someone posting something random like “Hey guys, fried chicken!” by a Viper character.  When the second major Viper Thumbnail Theatre was posted, I had the conversation still in memory and made light of it by having Ratty belt out the similar sounding “SUP GUYS FRIED CHICKEN” in all caps.  It was so unprecedented and random, and not to mention, hilarious that we couldn’t help but continue to make jokes about it, those of which almost always involved Ratty, fried chicken, and sometimes Colonel Sanders.  It became so popular that it also became an inside joke at the apartment I was staying at the time, with my then roommate ROMate occasionally saying it out loud in a squeaky, Ratty like voice.  I recorded him and used the sound file to make a YTMND site for it, which for better or worse, sometimes appears on the first page when you run a search for hyperguy on Google.

Press Release to Escape: A cryptic, engrish-like expression that never caught on.  It highlights the oddity of using a word that’s meant to be understood as another.  A simpler, smarter expression would be “Press Escape to Escape” or “Press Release to Release”.

Burijetto: Super Saiyan Bridget.  A person on Gaia wouldn’t stop calling Bridget “Burijetto”, which is close to the Japanese pronunciation of Bridget.  ROMate called their bullshit and explained that they were stupid and that the only reason why they’d use the phrase was because they were trying to sound clever.  At first he didn’t know what the hell they were talking about since Burijetto sounds so similar to Bejetto, the name of a powerful, super saiyan Dragonball Z character.  Adding ridicule to injury, ROMate then followed up with a Photoshop of Bridget with a super saiyan hairstyle, creating Burijetto as we know him today.  Given that super saiyan’s are blonde and have green eyes Bridget’s a natural for the title, adding further absurdity to the claim.

Doctor Raven is a Fish Monster: Because he is.  Before Doctor Raven made crazy gifs that contained upwards of 20 avatars he had an avatar of a fish person like creature.

The Horum: Before there was a Congress of Awesome, there existed the much more generic and far less awesome H-Forum, which was sometimes called the Horum for short.  The name was changed after I realized how generic it was to name a hentai forum that.  I mean, please.  There’s hundreds of hentai sites who name their forums that.  If you’re the owner of one of these sites, go change your forum’s name right now because it’s not getting any catchier.

Demon Princess: By her own decree, Karzena’s our local demon princess.  It’s a shame she never posts.

The Viper GTB Clan: Teen Strawberry’s three accounts that represent each female in the Anne Millers trio of waitresses.  The trio’s made up of Akira, Karin, and Saki, and they almost always post in the same thread.  Affectionately, they’ve been dubbed the “uber wonky Viper GTB Clan”.  She intended it to be a cunning scheme that’d create a bunch of drama and panic, but we actually kind of just ignored it.  I guess that goes to show just how mature/disinterested we are when it comes to forum drama.

Hong Kong: Long thought to be just another country that visits Hyperguy.net, Hong Kong surprised every body when a Hong Kongian who wasn’t Dual Soul posted a link to Hyperguy.net on a Hong Kongian adult link exchange and used up around 15 GB of bandwidth in 24 hours.  Good lord.  As of this writing, the amount of site visits from Hong Kong have gone down, however at one point they were tied with Australia for most visits from a single country.  For the record, the top three countries that visit Hyperguy.net are America, Australia, and Japan.  Also for the record, Dual Soul is the president of the Hong Kong Sogna company were Sogna a Hong Kongian and not a Japanese company.

Jam Kuradoberi’s Yellow Tie of Power, Shin-Jam, et al: One day on Gaia a user named BlueDrivesMonster made a post in the fighting games forum asking who everyone’s favorite yellow tie wearing female was.  He really was just referring to Cammy, who wears a yellow tie in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but kept raving on and on about the yellow tie of power, and Jam was my favorite fighter at that time, so I Photoshopped a bright yellow tie of power onto Jam.  From this, a banner was created that said “Hyperguy.net: Because Shin Jam wears a yellow tie.”  The title of “shin” is taken from Shin Akuma, the most powerful form of Akuma in Street Fighter.  Therefore, because her tie grants her superior power, Shin Jam wears a yellow tie.

Bakunyuu Baka: Bakunyuu Baka represents two things; a forum and a type of person.  The type of person is basically someone who goes gaga over large breasts.  It’s literal translation is “big breast idiot”.  As a forum, Bakunyuu Baka was me, JG, and YTF’s stomping ground before and inspired the H-Forum which later became the Congress of Awesome.

The Congress of Awesome: Originally, the Congress of Awesome was the name of the general discussion forum at the old H-Forum.  We then decided to rename the entire forum The Congress of Awesome because the name was too cool and H-Forum sounded way too generic.  So why a congress?  The creation of the name was inspired by Disgaea’s Dark(or Black, depending on the translation) Congress, a place full of demon senators that Laharl could go to pass laws that affected the game and unlocked features.  Not to mention, a congress is a type of community, and our community has always been an advocate of things that are cool.

...the blonde haired leader of the Guynarock team...
Elly. She's got a name you know.  Geez, don't you have this game!? (10 copies I thought.)

SUP GUYS FRIED CHICKEN: One day me and JG were talking over AIM about how weird it would be if other people performed Viper Thumbnail Theatre.  Then I mentioned about how stupid some people would be about it, and about how there’d be no continuity, and how it’d basically be one of us setting up the joke first followed by someone posting something random like “Hey guys, fried chicken!” by a Viper character...
I think I came up with the fried chicken blurt during that AIM session right after a KFC commerical had just played on the TV.  You get the credit for dropping it into the Theatre though.  I think at the time only the two of us understood just how funny that was.  Of course, now everyone understands that fried chicken = funny.

...“Burijetto”, which is close to the Japanese pronunciation of Bridget.
Or maybe that's becuase it is.

...I guess that goes to show just how mature/disinterested we are when it comes to forum drama.
After VIPER Thumbnail Theatre, all other drama is wasted energy.

The title of “shin” is taken from Shin Akuma, the most powerful form of Akuma in Street Fighter.
"Shin" (at least in this context) means "true".  Hence, the true form of Akuma.

Glossary needs an explanation of the whole Street Fighter manual page 32 joke.  And explanation for the misspelling of "oppression" in the same forum description - who's life is now forfeit for that grevious mistake?

Yeah the Fish Monster aka the Phantom of the Paradise.  Freaky 70s remake of the Phantom of the Opera.

But it still works.  To be fair though the rando avatar icon was created in response to the SHOCK gif on 4chan... that and I was itching to try out gifery.

An interesting read.  It forces me to ponder the myriad possibilities of deep-fried poultry.

That's right, I remember you mentioning the KFC commercial. I think it's just amazing that something so stupid from over a year ago is still talked about today.

Noted.

Yours if you continue to treat errors as more than just honest mistakes. >D

That sounds like something that'd belong more so in your autobiography.  How's it relate to the history of the site and forum?

I wanna see this 4chan SHOCK gif.  Also I've got to admit, your gif making skills just keep getting better and better.

An interesting read.  It forces me to ponder the myriad possibilities of deep-fried poultry.

Hory clap, that gif's awesome. This has got to be the best use of the Arnold Swarzennager Puyi Puyi energy drink commercials I've seen. =D

The internets ate your site.

Literally.  Something called "Jaws" comes up, wanting to update site.hyperguy.net to a new version.  So the glossary is non-functional until you do something about it.
