Title: Robotech vs. Macross
Post by: bfg00 on March 13, 2007, 08:18:34 pm: So I've been watching Macross just because I had seen Robotech as a kid and I was wondering how different the two shows are (for reference Robotech is the americanized version of Macross, check out the wikipedia links at the bottom for more info). As I'm watching Macross I've been realizing how much better I enjoyed the American version of the characters as opposed to the original version, however I do like the Macross plotline more than the American plotline. I was wondering what people's thoughts on this were.

Post by: Doctor_Raven on March 13, 2007, 09:32:53 pm: The thing with Robotech is they did some extensive work combining three seperate series into one timeline. for the second arc of the series they hand to remove the second sun on the planet to make it look like Earth. Of course this was all done so that the series could be on syndicated TV, seeing as the mark for syndication was 100 episodes.

Unless you're a member of the bridge crew, of course.

But you also need to go locate a copy of the DYRL movie. It's worth every last second that it'll take you to locate a copy of it.

Not hard, though: Southern Cross was mediocre at best in its original form, and Mospeada was relatively obscure even when it came out.

As an aside, while Battletech is a decent game, the setting is fucking ludicrous. Heavy Gear is a better bet for good American mecha gaming.

Yeah, I heard that. I will agree that Robotech did make improvements to the Japanese originals in some cases.

I only saw the English versions, years ago. Haven't seen them in the original Japanese yet.

Both are good in different aspects... I mean, if we compare robotech vs macross "do you remember love", we can see that protoculture is finally explained!... I didn't catch the idea in the robotech serie because I was worried about the triangle between Minmai, Rick and Misa.... That aspect of Macross was not deep as robotech. However, since they are using the same VFX aircraft which turns into robot... I love both...

I surely heard about Macross Series when I was a child.. but since the only anime I knew was Saint Seiya... It was not until a few years ago that I started to watch Macross I and II the movie... then Macross Plus ... and now Macross 7 and their OVAS

If there was something that dissapointed me, it was the Centinel movie from robotech... it sucked... !

Post by: onions79 on January 14, 2008, 03:25:17 am: Macross Plus is one of the greatest anime films ever. It's been forever since I've seen it--it was a VHS pirated tape from a buddy of mine--quality was minimal at best but it's amazing. Highly suggest it.
