What did you clowns think of Elite Beat Agents?
« on: December 19, 2006, 07:35:00 pm »
I think it is the greatest video game released in the past several years, although I know some people (affectionately referred to as "targets") balked at the idea of a game with a cover of an Avril Lavigne song. These people are stupid and dumb. For those who hung around, they found the perfect reason to buy a DS (no, it was not the constant and irritating barrage of Phoenix Wright/Jack Thompson jokes) and a reaffirmation that games are awesome.

Who is in agreement with me?

P.S: Ouendan was pretty cool too, despite its amazingly obnoxious last level.

It's about a bunch of Japanese male cheerleaders in zoot suits who get sent on missions to PUMP YOU UP.

THEY'RE THE ELITE BEAT AGENTS!

TATAKAE! MAMORU TAME!  THE FUTURE OF JAPAN AND THE DAIRY INDUSTRY DEPENDS ON YOUR SUCCESS!

I wanna get it for my Nintendo DS.  The level I played on the demo had the son of a automobile company turning into a ninja and infiltrating a rival company to get their stolen concept car's plans back, with the EBA cheering them on the whole way through.  Another mission I've seen has a white blood cell in a life and death battle with a virus inside a olympic runner's body, and another still with a washed up pro baseball player getting pumped up to take on robots.

The manga style cutouts for the game's cinemas are really stylish, and well worth the price of admission.

Actually, the male cheerleader thing is Ouendan. They got put through the River City Ringer and came out as MIB-type dudes with microphones. In fact, every facet outside of the gameplay was changed when the game was brought stateside (levels, characters, music, &tc).

The job of an Elite Beat Agent is to go to different parts of the world to motivate someone in trouble. Can't get the Mona Lisa to smile? Want to get off of a deserted island? Need to fight off an armada of music-hating space aliens? Would you like the spirit of your dead father to come back home for Christmas? Well then...

AGENTS ARE...

GO!

WORD.

I'm picking this up after Children of Mana, because EBA wasn't thought up during my childhood like Secret of Mana was.

I got EBA and Children of Mana today.

I breezed by most of the early missions without too much trouble, but the later ones are going to take some practice.

I really wish I could tell you all about or highlight the best part of game, but that's hard to do considering just about every mission is simply amazing.

But wait!  A sequel to Ouendan wouldn't necessarily mean there'll be a sequel to EBA, would it?  Though it's likely there will be one, I don't think this announcement counts as one.  I mean, weren't Ouendan and EBA different enough to not be considered the same game?

considering how enthusiastic nintendo of america (reggie in particular) is about an eba sequel, i'd go ahead and say that yeah, ouendan 2 will eventually be elite beat agents 2.

we should take this time out and make a big old wishlist about things we'd like to see in the new game:

- more avril
- journey's "don't stop believin'" should be in there somewhere
- SPICE GIRLS
- a storyline similar to katamari damacy 2 or end of evangelion (creator feeling pressured to do things a certain way, and then turning it into a big "fuck you" to the audience)
