Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
« on: January 03, 2008, 12:48:24 am »
Believe it or not, this game totally rules. Even if you don't go for the whole Sonic vs Mario dreammatch thing, the mini-games are way too much fun, especially with friends. Characters are divided into sets (Speed,, Power, Skill, All-Around) and have 4 characters per category, for 16 characters total. My only real complaint so far is that a lot of the Mario characters have lines recycled from old Mario games. Peach and Daisy retain all their lines from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and most just say their names when you select them, as opposed to the Sonic characters who actually have quotes.

Highlight of the experience: Sonic in the swimming events. He's the only character with a life vest, and for his swimming animation, he just runs in the water while using the vest to float. It's goofy as hell, and kinda neat that the developers remembered the fact that Sonic can't swim.

Hearing that, I'm surprised they didn't include air bubbles in the swimming events.

I'm sure if there's an underwater event, there will be. We still haven't unlocked all of them. Also, my arms and shoulders are killing me. Apparently you get a good workout playing this game.

Aren't there a couple of characters who do the swimming events by just running across the bottom of the pool? ^^

My sister actually has the game, I've played it a couple of times with her.  All I know is on her tiny TV the shooting event is FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE ;_;

and it's hard to tell just exactly what all the four categories of athletes has to do with each event.  Like shooting.  How does speed/technique/power affect shooting?  It's just aiming with the wiimote.

And in others (say running and speed) certain categories seem to have big advantages, but what do the other categories have to even the competition?

We were playing archery just now, and my baby brother was a skill character. His shots went impossibly well, no matter how horrible his aim was. Maybe a higher skill stat gives you a bigger fuck-up margin?

I've killed Sonic so many times since my early childhood...

At least he keeps comin' back, more popular than ever.

We finally unlocked all the events. There's no underwater event, so no bubbles for Mr. Admin. Also, here's a surprising discovery: Dr. Eggman is damn near unstoppable in most events. It's uncanny. He just won't quit.
