A lot of great games duck under the radar because of stupid fandom. Never forget that.

That being said, I think I'm gonna go locate my Illusion of Gaia cartridge and pwn some Mu.

Also: most of the stuff released by NIS America and Atlus have a tendency to be pretty good, oftentimes better than the mainstream in either gaming, or story-telling, or both.

Also: you failed to mention any of Enix's other awesome releases besides the DQ games but acknowledged more than just FF for Square. wut?

Only two: SoM and CT, and I didn't single them out from the FF games that were out about the same time.  I only included them to point out that was the peak for Square.

And then alot of you go apeshit on me for not having mentioned more Enix stuff.  It was purely meant to be a DQ vs FF post in response to Khris's DQ7 post.  I guess I never should have put SoM or CT on there to confuse you.

Bang Doll: I've seen or played enough of each of them except DQ5, DQ6, and FF11 to form an opinion on each.  If you've covered that many in the two series, I'd like some reasoning as to your poor taste comment.  If not, come back when you have.

For the record, I'd still take Skies of Arcadia or Tales of Symphonia over anything Square, Enix, or the combined entity offers (though I admit I've not played everything outside of the signature brands for each).  A re-release of DQ4 could do much to challenge this opinion though.

Well I guess I should weigh in on this:

Love: The characters, combat system, materia, and the feel of the game.

Hate: I agree with you guys, the plot needs some work plus the characters should have been developed more.

Nonetheless FF7 remains one of my favorite games just because its fun to play, atleast for me.

damn lack of Pinta's quest =(
I didn't care much for Pinta's quest on the DC version.  Its a sidequest that only serves to show off DC hardware - it doesn't add anything worthwhile to the game.  I think, in fact, that it distracts from it.  I'm not sorry they dropped it, but exchanging the VMU for a GBA could have been a great touch for the Legends version.  SoA:L is still the king of RPGs without this odd little sidequest.

Skies of Arcadia was great but I only played the version on dreamcast. ^^;

Eternal Arcadia (JP) / Skies of Arcadia (US/EU) has the aforementioned Pinta's Quest.

Eternal Arcadia Limited Edition (JP only) included Pinta's Quest and a few extras that Overworks felt made the game too long or put it off track that they removed from the regular and overseas editions. Off the top of my head this included the Maria/Piastol moonfish sidequest and 16 extra discoveries.

Eternal Arcadia: Legends / Skies of Arcadia: Legends (US/EU) kept the moonfish quest and the discoveries from Deluxe, added the bounty sidequests, 8 more discoveries, 2 more chams (to make it easier to get Final Cupil), made it so you couldn't get infinite choms at the Maw of Tarturus, some cutscenes are longer (the "looking at the same red moon scene" a short time after Rhaknam sinks the Little Jack comes to mind), some of Vyse's titles are a little different, included all previously downloadable content, and of course modified the game for the new platform: Cupil squeeks instead of dancing on a VMU, rumble is standard, higher quality graphics, MP3-type sound instead of CD tracks, Pinta's quest was dropped for lack of VMU, no quarter second spin and disc spin tipping you off that a random battle is about to start, etc.

Needless to say, Legends took a great thing and made it even better if you don't mind the slight drop off in audio quality.  (It does have some of the finest background music around for an RPG so that did sting a little.)  Plus its only $20.  Go pick up a copy next time you visit EBGames.  Its well worth it if only to relive the experience, and moreso counting the moonfish and bounty sidequests you haven't played.

Agreed mightily.

This explains so very, very much.

Also I thoughtt he Maria/Piastol sidequest was new for Legends, I was unaware of its presence in the JP only version @.@  And were the new discoveries in Legends from the 16 removed from the LE?

I don't know if the whole sidequest was part of the LE version or only parts of it.  The moonfish hunting bit might have been different or dropped but I saw LE screenshots of Piastol long before Legends was ever in the works.  I'd love to see some confirmation of this but the LE was damned rare.  Although if someone finds disc images for the LE I can find out (my DC is one of the CD-R unlocked versions)

Legends has 24 more discoveries than the regular version.  The 16 from the LE and 8 new ones.  Some (or all) of those 24 may have been downloadable content back in the days though.
