Now its computer woes...
« on: October 14, 2007, 10:06:39 pm »
Well my Lenovo finally came... except the Nvidia card that was installed with it was not letting the monitor work properly.  Made the monitor think it was in sleep mode all the time. So I had to remove it and am getting a replacement from Lenovo.  The next problem comes from the Linksys Speedbooster card I bought from Circuit City.  It was created crooked.  So now I can't even manually install the device into the computer as the card is entering the slot and sticking on the place where there is a gap IN the card. Oh the fun part is that I have buy a seperate copy of Norton 360 for my computer :/

SIGH.  Why can't I have nice things?

Tetsaru highly recommends ordering computers from Dell.  The computer I got last Christmas has been doing awesomely well for me lately.  >:3

Oh yah - I also say Norton can suck on my bawlz.  I use AVG and Ad-Aware SE for my security stuff.  And they're FREE.  :3

Never even HEARD of Lenovo until now, lol...

I know, I know, I said I was leaving HG, but.

Don't listen to tetsaru, Dell is utter shit, absolute shit, do what I did and order your parts separate and build your own! You'll find not only are you totally up to date for a long time, but in the event you want to upgrade, it's easier! Go dell if you want an overpriced typewriter that can't run apps beyond standard home user applications.

Just go to newegg and build a machine from scratch.

Well I got the whole situation fixed.  They are sending me a replacement Nvidia card and Just got a replacement Wifi Card. In fact I am on my new computer now. Behold the power of Fafnir D:

*nothing happens* oh that's right I don't have the death ray attached to this yet XD

Seriously though I gotta figure why my external Hard Drive isn't popping up.  I mean it is a 7 year old HD (60 gigs is FIERCE) but I am sure I just need some drivers or something.

Seems foolish to ask, but are you sure you didn't get a PCI Express card for a standard PCI slot? (Or vice versa?)

I run the same copy of McAfee on three of my computers.  I've yet to discover anyone happier with Norton than alternatives.

As would I, if you can't build them yourself. Nevermind Bill's rantings. I've never bought a Dell PC myself but everyone I know who has has been pleased with them, albeit they come at a premium price.

You've heard of IBM right? IBM sold off their desktop and laptop business to Chinese maker Lenovo a few years back to focus on their server business.  Lenovo was a competative player in the Asian market but was practically unknown states-side before buying IBM's struggling unit.

Just go to newegg and build a machine from scratch.
It's rare, but occasionaly I agree with Bill.  This is one of those times.  (Assuming you're capable of putting the pieces together.  If you're taking video and network cards in and out, you qualify.)

Almost all external drives need drivers.  My external WD does and I've yet to see an external Maxtor that does not.

No it was the right slot and the right card it was just a manufacturing error. They attached the circuitry to the plate in such a way that it was forming an acute angle as opposed to the prescribed 90 degree.  I got a replacement for it quickly.

As far as Norton, I'm not sure what their saying actually.  I figure their more likely to enforce due to the whole we're giving each installation online storage.  Silly I know.

As far as drivers, I've checked LaCie's site and I think my item is very much out of date.  This was about 4-5 year old model and so far I haven't seen any sites that offer them. Then again I've been tempted by that big old 750 GB HD that's being offered by other companies.

You know, I never actually saw the point of using Norton, it always gave me more problems than anything else, have you considered trying AVG Free? I highly recommend it AND use it.

Its a personal preference like my preference of Nero Burning Software even if they are adding more and more side things to the program.

Meanwhile my replacement nVidia driver came... it works and it is glorious!
