Didn't Chrono Trigger allow 2P to control the second (or third) character in the party?  I know they could in Secret of Mana and I thought Square included that feature in the original CT as well.

Unfortunately details like these tend to be forgotten after 13 years...

I'm pretty sure you could'nt do that in Chrono Trigger.I don't see the point anyway. In CT you aren't free to move while in battle.

I'm certainly confusing this with another game but I seem to recall 2P could run around on screen (and get close enough to enemies to begin a battle) and control the battle action except when Crono does a combo with 2P's character.  Even if this is not how it was in the original I presume this is what the multiplayer format will be like for the DS port, though I can't see how 4P gets any action in this method.

I think JG is correct.  I believe you could control one of the other characters but basically all you could do is walk around and control your character when his/her turn came up.

Someone needs to plop the cart into ye olde SNES tray and power it on for us and find out for sure.

On a personal note, this is killing me: I'm either going senile in my old age or I have the video game memory equivalent of an elephant.

Move around in battle, control only one character wat.

You guys are either terribly senile or Chrono wasn't a very memorable experience.  The only actual movement in battle is done by enemies, and since it's a Square title, of course it played like any previous Final Fantasy (so you had control over all characters naturally).

Where does the Seiken Densetsu series fit into that broad statement?  Though I do agree that I'm not sure where this moving around stuff in combat is coming from.

I don't think so.  The only game I can recall with a setup like that is Legend of Mana for PS1.  In my PS1 version of Chrono Trigger there's no visable option for it and I think I would have remembered if the SNES version had the option since I rented the game a total of 14 times before finally securing a copy as SNES titles were being pushed out(Pre-internet video game era).

My best guess is that the 2 player mode in the DS version will either be a versus mode or a set of minigames that'll hopefully include a 2 player version of the bike race from 2300 A.D.

sorry when i said "moving around" i didn't mean in battle and then i was like "lulz" so never mind that moving around altogether

still think there was an option to pick commands with 2p...

and at the very least a 2p option for the bike minigame.  though I may be channeling that Chrono Trigger bonus cartridge.  God those roms were awesome.  fuckin soundtrack at my finger tips.. then load up into minigame.  those bonus carts were fucking awesome AWESOM EMAN AWESOME

i think there was even an artwork one.  i'd take Ayla's sprite and have her doing various motions to make her bewbs bounce around.  Mmm, pixel pr0n is so retro.  Makin' me nostalgic.

Chrono Trigger is without a doubt the most epic SNES game I've ever played XD

Another game that is similar to Chrono Trigger in playstyle is Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled. It is pretty much a Chrono Trigger clone also for the DS but I think it will be enjoyable
