New VIPER Stuff Day

Few days are as nice as the days when a shipment of VIPER goodies arrives from Japan.

New for me today:

• Awaji Sugawara VIPER deskmat and teleca.  (This has the same artwork you guys loved the scan of from the VIPER Rough Book.  The deskmat is a little harder to come by and the teleca is exceptionally rare. To get them together was a real steal.)
• Animahjong V3 5" diskette version (I already had the 3.5" so this completes my set unless the X68k version does in fact exist.)
• Animahjong X character design proof set (all 20 pages; some of the artwork made it into the game manual, some of it was never released elsewhere)
• VIPER Anniversary Rise characters coffee cup (now I can go Asuka & Miki one day and the waitress gals the next)

New VIPER items for sale at Sogna Digital Museum, including a rare, mint copy of M.I.N Official Art Book Vol. 1.

I got an obi for my V8 Windows first edition.


Acquired a 3.5" diskette version of V8 RS, completing the eight game V8 set. As a bonus, it included a package of the pocket tissues, which is from V12 not V8, so now I have an extra set.


Acquired a copy of VIPER-GTS Novel Edition. These are surprisely quite rare on Yahoo! Japan Auctions.


Got the 1996 calendars for both Sogna and Silence. Silence's May image is Guynarock, so it counts.


Found a seller was selling alot of old M.I.N stuff, including original copies of games with manuals and photo inserts. (M.I.N was the precursor to Sogna, both being spinoffs of Silence.)

* Galactic Guardian Guyna-rock: Limited Re-release Edition (5" diskettes)
* Vision (3.5" diskette)
* Vision 2 (5" diskettes)

If anyone has some info about converting physical disks to disk images for use in emulators, I can perhaps convert these (especially Brocken, as it was never reproduced and I've never seen a disk image of it, so our knowledge of it is limited.)


Same seller had another game I won for just 100 yen, after finding out it was a Silence game drawn by the same artist who did Guyna-rock. I don't know much else about it but its definately related to Sogna history.

And of course, the same seller had the art books, too, of which the extra copy of Vol. 1 is now for sale at SDM.

Beyond the pictures of early character designs and scene sketches, these had a wealth of information about the price and availability of the early M.I.N games like Reserve, Vision, and Brocken. Major (and log overdue) updates to SDM are forthcoming.

* VARIABLE VIPERS II: Infinite Pleasure (Graf Zeppelin) - even awesomer
* Kemonomichi 1 (Rascou) - my copy is better than your copy becuase its real
* Sugoi Ikioi! [1] (Mutsuya) - has some Rise and F40 images.  Go find it on e-hentai if you're curious.

Now, if we make it to February without DarkSpace in VIPER or VV2: Infinite Pleasure being scanned, yours truly will do it.  My rules are to wait six months after debut before scanning, and both were released at Comiket 78 (August 13-15).  To my knowledge neither has yet been scanned.

New goodies that came in Thursday:
* Animahjong V3 (X68000 version, 5" diskettes) - picture doesn't look any different than the PC98 version, but the side and back of the case say X68000 and there's only four disks, not five.
* GT1 Support Disk - you could download the v1.2 update files from sogna.com but if some people could get a diskette with the update mailed to them. I managed to find one of these diskettes in an auction.
* VIPER Series Official Art Book II, second printing - the second printing doesn't have the screen saver diskette but otherwise seems indistinguishable except for price (95 yen cheaper)
* JACOM II Mousepad - Meow!
* Seven new trading cards - most notibly #42, the gold foil Miki
* Another sunshade - this one has less wear then the one I had before, so the old one is now for sale on SDM
* VIPER-RSR poster
* D3-BOSS vol 0.5 doujin

Note that I'm offering a full set of the V series manga books for the first time, and also a nearly full set of the major art books (sans only the F40 art book) though you have to go to SDM to see the art books I'm already offering for sale there.  Art books are the ideal way to start a VIPER collection so if you've been looking to start, now is a great time to get on board. I may offer a discount to someone who buys a large number of art books and/or doujinshi as I'm currently overstocked.

* Found some Sogna Service Tickets that were given out with VIPER-RSR and perhaps with some other games. They were meant to be traded with friends and redeemed for Sogna Merchandise like telecas and coffee cups.  (You can see them and a product selection form in the lower left.)

* Asuka with katana mouse pad.  This may be the earliest of the mouse pads given the very early VIPER logo on it.

And perhaps my personal favorite from this lot, a large collection of original artwork from the artist known on Pixiv as 家(￥)畜.  You may have come across his work on Pixiv before, as he is a huge Miki fan and only draws her. I was able to acquire 16 full sheet sketches, 27 half-sheet sketches, and the original panels for two of his doujinshi: Miki-chan and Takesi-kun's Story of the Events at the Hotel (18 pages), and Miki-chan's Pacifier Diary (7 pages).  It may not be Graf Zeppelin quality, but its neat nonetheless (and only cost me about $22 for the entire set)
