Anything in the top 20 has to have some staying power.  It can't be on shelves for a few months then be impossible to find a few years later like FFT.  Sorry but I couldn't imagine either FFT or FF9 anywhere in the top 50 just for that reason alone.

And how many times must it be said?  FF4 > FF6.

Knowing EGM, I'd guess something totally off the wall (like Jet Force Gemini), something that just as many people hate as love (like Tomb Raider), something too modern (like God of War), or too uninventive (anything starring Crash Bandicoot)  They've probably thought of something all of the above.

I'd still cast a vote for SMB3. That would have been early in EGM's life, but still within range.

EGM just released its 200th issue this month, and in it, they included a list for the 200 best games of their time.

Make a wild guess as to which game received the number 1 spot this time around.
Better not have been fucking Halo.

I guess that must be a list comparing games in respect of how much they owned everythign else when they first came out, not with each other (becuase obviously SMB3 > SM64 > SMB1)

I guess I can live with that list though.  Don't know what GoldenEye is doing anywhere near the top 20 though (not all that innovative or overwhelming popular at the time)  I'd also have to knock GTA3 down below SMB3 and DK but I'll give it due rights to remain in the top 20 form everything I've heard about it.

And I thought their list was only going to include games made since EGM's inception. I don't think they were around yet to witness half of those. (By my reckoning, 1, 2, 4 [original pc, not the gb version], 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15, and 18 all were pre-EGM.)

Just checked the full list of 200 and like we all thought, they put FF7 above any other FFs, and above any other RPGs other than a pair of Phantasy Stars (and not even the best ones) They should have stuck with a top 20 and not made fools out of themselves by dropping the ball like that. The more I look at this list the more is pisses me off.

Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure 1, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mega Man and/or Mega Man II, and the Madden series (I think 95 was the first, and therefore, groundbreaking title) are surprisingly absent. Each definately top 50 material for anyone (or any magazine) who would know what they were talking about. I see other games way too far down the list for where they should be, too: Mortal Kombat 2 and Pole Position jump out.  And original Sonic 1 all the way down at 56!? Blasphemy!! It was clearly THE game of the year when it first came out!  Every little boy and many a girl wanted a genesis for that game alone.

Gaming magazines are notorious for dropping said ball, so it really should come as no surprise to anyone...

On another forum I visit they concluded that the people there who had the highest post counts had them because they'd frequently participate in Final Fantasy related discussion.  Final Fantasy is just one of those things that people can talk over and over again about it seems.

I think this thread proves that logic.

So, uh, anyone play Final Fantasy 7?  That motorcycle scene was tight!

So was that scene when all of the weapons leave the crater, and you get to see Tifa's juggs flop around for a good 4 seconds before she falls down.  That was probably the best moment of the game for me.

I mean, even if you took out the fact that they were on an airship and being hit by shockwaves, it was only a matter of time before she capsized from all of that extra weight.

The ship?  Or Tifa? o_O

Too bad you have to labor through the whole game just to get to that point. They should have had her flop around 5 minutes into the game, not five minutes from the end.  Or better yet, follow the rules of fan service and repeat it every so often to keep things interesting (because the plot sure as hell isn't.)
