a brief overview of some of the Viper titles?
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:04:43 am »
being relatively unfamiliar with almost all of the Viper games, i was wondering if someone could give me a rough idea of some of the more well known games, RSR, F40, CTR, v6?

ideally, (main) character names, gameplay style, a basic idea of the plot, and if its got multiple endings/sequels.

thanks in advance :P, hope im not asking too much =/

Feel free to post any additional questions here, as my site doesn't answer all of them.

True but I'm sure it will eventually.

the site doesn't seem to like me...
can't connect for some reason (although i did manage to reach it a few hours beforehand)

just one question (at this point in time)...

do most (if not all) of the viper games have branching plot/alternate endings?

i may be wrong (and i probably am)
but from what i can gather from the viper RSR video's posted here, 1 ending guy gets "raped" by cala, then blasted by the purple bug with a cape
1 ending he and cala are in a bed she cries -> ??? -> guy says stuff -> happy ending? and in another ending he's sitting there naked seemingly braindead...

of course, the endings could all be linear...
him + cala in bed -> "rape" + bug blasted -> brain-dead
but that seems slightly...irregular...for a plot development, to say the least.

so insight into that would be helpful i guess?

RSR has many bad ends, to see them just lose the battle to certain monsters, usually bosses, and they will rape you.

The scene where Cala cries is part of the story, not an ending. The other two are bad ends. IIRC, the one with the purple bug happens when you lose to him, and the braindead one when you lose to the last boss.

Sorry.  AT&T is playing "service chicken" again.  About every 6-9 months my quality of service starts taking a nose dive.  I'm starting to see the first signs of it again now.  I usually have to turn off my router and modem for a bit, and disconnect the wire from the wall long enough for thier servers to realize I'm no longer on network.  Then I can connect back up and get reconnected normally.
If things dont' improve (about half the time it does, the other half I'm calling custmomer service), my connection will start getting dropped more and more often over the next 4 or 5 days until I'm only able to sustain a connection for about 5 minutes before being dropped.  That's when a tech has to go to the DSLAM and manually crank back down the sync rate frequency to normal ranges of use.  One of them told me that its a known problem with AT&T's DSLAM equipment.  The techs know how to fix the problem but can't convince network engineers to correct it, or perhaps won't becuase it would eliminate part of their job.

just one question (at this point in time)...

do most (if not all) of the viper games have branching plot/alternate endings?

Afternoon and Double Impact from V6, Friday the 18th from V8, and Children's Play and Rear Under from V10 don't branch at all.
Several later games also have only a single ending.  They'll branch slightly but come back to the same result.  GTS, V12's Magical Gambler story, BTR, F40, F50, and M5 fall into this category.

ah, thanks a bunch :P
very helpful.

i may have more questions in future so bear with me :P

EDIT: oh and just as a note, reason im asking is that im adding the info to a VN/ADV database (although it would be nowhere as in-depth about the viper series as sognadigitalmuseum), more specifically its at http://vndb.org/

i hope it's alright for me to do so :O

I wish you wouldn't plagiarize me word for word.  I don't mind you using my site as a basis for the information on your own, but you're lifting whole paragraphs.

Instead of
A game that bends old school dungeon crawling along with animated cutscenes.

It is a dark age in the kingdom of Alitalia. Monsters ransack cities, slaughtering the men and taking the women as their slaves. Four adventurers set out to end the rampages, only to see those they love killed or captured in the process. Will Alitalia be torn asunder by the beasts, or can order be restored by royal decree?
