Computer Specs/Parts thread
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:22:46 am »
This is a consolidated thread for the posting of:

Your computer's specs
Your desktop
Parts
General troubleshooting

---

Some popular online merchants of computer parts:
http://newegg.com
http://tigerdirect.com
http://pricewatch.com

---

Here!  I'll start!

I finally upgraded my computer this year.  The last computer I built was made in 2005 and ran on a Sempron processor. O_o

Specs!

AMD Phenom II 1055t Hexacore Processor (Overclocked to 4.0 ghz)
4GB 1333 mhz Corsair DDR3 RAM
XFX Radeon HD 5870 video card (Xypress XT, OC'd to 900/1250)
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard (This is actually a really good motherboard for overclocking.  It has lots of options.)
Thermaltake Element G Black Case (Complete with cheesy LED lights!  Type R sticker not included!)

It feels good to finally have something current!  Ever since I started building rigs I'd always been jealous of computer illiterate people who'd get themselves super powerful computers and only use them to run Internet Explorer.

...Except now that I have a powerful computer, aside from gaming the most I'm using it for is running Firefox. O_o;

With mah six cores I could try more intensive stuff like video editing and rendering in 3D, but to be honest, I don't know where to start.  Since I got my 5870 there hasn't been a game that I haven't been able to play at max settings at 60 fps, save for Final Fantasy XIV, on account of that game being poorly coded.  If someone could recommend a good video editing program for optimizing videos for YouTube uploading I'd be greatful.

---

Software I use on a regular basis:

Photoshop
Steam
Dreamweaver
Firefox
Filezilla (for uploads and managing the server's files)
Winamp
Pidgin
Apache + mySQL and PHP (for the offline test server)
Audacity
KeyHoleTV (For watching Japanese Television)
Visual Novelty (For making visual novels)

Tools:
Bamboo Wacom Tablet (Still learning how to use it properly...X_o)
Kodak AIO All in One Printer/Scanner/Copier
PS2 controller to USB converter
$15 headset (For Team Fortress 2 and voice acting)
VOIP internet phone (PM me if you'd like to talk over the phone)

Games!:
Vindictus
Team Fortress 2
Final Fantasy XIV
PCSX2 (Playstation 2 emulator, for with which I play Nippon Ichi games and Tekken 5!)
Blazblue (Japanese PC version that was released last month)
Mafia 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Kabod Online
Batman Arkham Asylum
Vanguard Princess
GGPO (For Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Final Fight)
Resident Evil 4 PC (Still play it for challenge mode)
...And Cirno Racing Trial Version (lol)
World of Warcraft is uninstalled and will remain uninstalled until Blizzard updates their character models.

Eh, that's not including the hentai ones... X_o

3D Custom Girl
Yusha
School Mate 2 Uninstalled.  Despite not paying, I want my money back. D:<
Princess of the Ring
Love Fetish 0-9
Erogos Inn Series
Lightning Warrior Raidy 1 and 2
PC9800 emulator Neko Project (For playing Variable Geo and Monzetu Fighter)

Have you dabbled with Wii/GC emulation?  Its my only interest in upgrading to a better rig, cause you know its an eyesore on regular television.  [emulated shot] -->

I have not, though would love to try a Wii emulator to play No More Heroes.  Know of a decent one?

Edit: Eh, a simple Google search came up with Dolphin.  Guess I'll give it a shot.

Just buy a Wii you fags.

Then play Monster Hunter Tri and Samurai Warriors 3 with me online u_u

AND then you can play NMH1 and 2 offline ^o^

And for more Suda51-ishness you can then insert Killer7 for GC and enjoy it further U_u
