I've had a hard drive problem on the SDM server.  I spent about half the night working on it and I believe the partition table has gotten corrupt, which is both good and bad.

The good news is that the files are probably ok.  I'm using EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard and it seems to be finding most, if not all, of the files on the drive.  Unfortunately its very slow.  I thought it would run overnight but its status indicates it'll take into the weekend.
I also have most of these files backed up to a different drive periodically, but I'm missing some of the newer static files, like Couple of the Year, News, and For Sale updates.  I'm hoping DRW can recover those for me.

The bad news is I have no other drive to pop in the box at the moment, so I may need to acquire one (I have a buddy who likely has an old drive he'd give me).  Also, I've got to be out of town this weekend, so I can't work on it until Sunday.  Not that it changes things much if DRW takes that long to run.

In the meantime, I have disabled all Web Services on my server so that futher attempts to read from the disabled drive are stopped (which may improve the DRW run speed as it should have nearly exclusive access to the drive)  This means SDM, and my Variable Vipers II: Infinite Pleasure download are unavailable until things are repaired.  If you want VV2: IP, you can find the gallery on e-hentai.

I'll provide an update on Sunday.


And yes, I know my server is not as fault tolerant as it should be.  I've not had the time or resources to make it so.

I've got SDM back up now, but I'm having to rebuild some of the content that is so far unrecoverable (mostly images.)  Fortunately I have both a beta site and regular so most things are available in at least one.  Also, alot of text-based content was in the IIS cache folder and I was able to get latest versions from there.   But some links may still be dead and some images broken for a few days.  I'm still hoping I can recover some of the images (like the VCOTY banner) that only existed on one site from the old drive but they haven't all been recovered in any scan yet.

One thing I hope one of you guys got before the site went down is the large size (2140 x 3020) PNG set of Variable VIPERS II: Infinite Pleasure.  I can get the regular sized PNG version from my e-hentai gallery but not the large.  Technically, I can recreate them from the original scans I took (which I still have in my workstation's recycle bin), but I'd prefer not.  And it may yet turn up in the recovery scans but its so big I think I would have noticed it by now.  If you got the large size PNG set, please contact me by Private Message or upload it to some download service so we can reinstate it.

You can also use this thread to point out things that aren't working to me.  I already know the ad system and search isn't working.

If any of you can get the VCOTY banner image from your browser's cache, that would be helpful.

Same goes for VDOTY banner or any other images that are presently missing.

Still working on reconstructing all the SDM files that have been irreperably lost, but that's not stopping me from adding new stuff.  I just posted several new items for sale: the Series 1 art book (with obi!), a number of bargain-priced V series mangas (without jackets), and some new trading cards (like Raika).  I've also lowered the prices on alot of the art books that have been in stock for a while, as I've got more copies on the way from Japan.

It's always nice to find the good things in the bad, and I've found one as a result of this server hard drive blowup.  My most recent recovery scan found a zip file and I didn't know what it was until I opened it.

Lo and behold, it's the long-lost Typing VIPER demo.

This has been MIA for almost two and a half years.  I had accidentally deleted the demos from SDM one day and was able to get them all back from game discs except this one.  It was obviously no longer available on sogna.com, the undelete/recovery software I had at the time couldn't get it back, and no one on this forum came forward with a copy.  I had assumed it was forever lost.

I had a very productive recovery run overnight, so I was able to restore a load of files today.  I no longer need the large sized PNG set of VV2: IP, or the VCOTY and VDOTY logos.  I have a few more things to reconstruct, but I should be done tomorrow or Tuesday.

I closed work on SDM's recovery this morning.  My recovery run overnight got the last two files I wanted back that were not reconstructable (my news and forsale archive files).  Everything is completely back to normal now.
