Are the women of Variable Geo stupid?
« on: November 04, 2008, 08:18:21 am »
It's something I've been wondering about, though mostly in the case of recurring participants.

They enter this tournament where the price of defeat is being sexually assaulted and as there's only one champion it seems they all get raped first time round(except the winner obviously). Then next year, they all come back to have it done to them again.
Really, what the hell's wrong with them?

How many characters really have motives for entering the tournament that are strong enough to justify the risk of defeat? I've had a look through the characters' profiles before, and it doesn't seem as though most of them are participating for life-or-death reasons(quite a few are just in it for money, or a good punch-up).

I don't suppose anyone knows how many canonical tournaments there have been featuring the original cast? I ask because I'm pretty sure the first set of VG characters were in more games than the Neo girls, and I'm curious as to who's been subjected to the tournament penalties the most.

Obviously, Yuka is exempt from my query, because she just about always wins. So she's not returning to get raped, and raped again, she's coming back to make sure that everyone else gets raped(including her old chum Satomi).

Finally, does anyone know where the hell the games' name comes from? It looks kinda random to me.

It's kind of hard to explain since there's a few different canons.  I know, just having more than one seems uncanon.  Bear with me.

Basically, there's the canon from Variable Geo as a hentai series, and then there's the one for the OVA.  Now, the OVA is a little watered down.  There's different levels of penalty games that range from stripping to humiliation, but nothing as hardcore as rape.  I guess you could say that it's nowhere near as severe as the hentai series' canon, and probably worth risking defeat considering the prize is 10 million dollars and prime real estate.  The official canon for the game takes place in Advanced Variable Geo 1 and 2, which also had its hentai aspect watered down so that it could be released on Playstation 1 and also to tie into the OVA.

To answer your original question though, Satomi's motive is strong enough to worth risking defeat.  If she doesn't get the money for her brother's operation he's pretty much dead.

There've been 2 cannonical tournaments featuring the original cast, and they take place during Advanced Variable Geo 1 and 2 respectively.  The story from the PC98 versions was effectively retconned, which is kind of sad since that means no Kotoe, Yumiko, or Terumi is in the story officially.

Anywho, Yuka Takeuchi wins the first tournament in Advanced Variable Geo 1 and Tamao wins the second tournament.

Though I haven't been able to confirm it, I think that the game was originally called 'Virgin Girls' when it was released on the PC98, but to further stray away from the hentai aspect was changed to 'Variable Geo'.

"Virgin Girls"? Christ, that sounds kinda creepy, and I suspect it's largely inaccurate.

I always considered the games the main canon, really, and the OVA as a sort of spin-off. If there's only two games that are part of the series' canon, then I guess everyone just came back for a second helping of unwanted dicks. Well, apart from Kaori as she took part in a VG tournament before the first game, so she got three helpings.

You make a good point.  Since when has logic had anything to do with hentai?

It's my understanding that these are years 2 and 3 of the tournament.  In the first year, Reimi defeated Kaori in the final, setting up Kaori to be Reimi's rival in the OVA.  Jun and Elly also returned from the first year but I'm unsure if any other characters returned or, like Yuka, are new to year 2.

Logic has everything to do with hentai!

It's just that in most cases its either flawed logic, or a crackpot logic, but enough logic for consistency.

Like...

If there is a hentai in a school setting, naturally the school nurse will wear a short skirt, be dangerously attractive, and engage in sexual relations with students.

Or the crazy hero rescues girl from rape only to have her offer sex as a reward scenario, whose logic dictates that even though a girl was just prevented from being taken advantage of and violated in such a horrible manner that'd the last thing on her mind would be sex, she'll have absolutely no problem with turning around and rewarding her savior with sex.

Touche.  I guess they apply their own brand of logic to the situation, i.e. when in doubt whip it out.

The nurse wears a short skirt and breast enhancing tops to emphasize her feminine traits, thus presenting a motherlike factor. This psychologically comforts the person being treated.

Case in point : All hentai males want to fuck their mothers. Incest. The game for the whole family.

Girl is offering sex to guy who saved her because the fact is, he just saved her life, and its of her own volition to give up that sweet sweet ink and paper ass to our hero, henceforth known as Skags Mahoney Attorney at Law, to show that saving her was worth her body. Or some shit.

Case in point: Bitch got horny at prospect of being gang fucked by demons, didn't get it. Hero comes up. and then Comes On. Her.
