Ehh, whats happen to Sogna?
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:27:23 pm »
Hello, everyone

I'm the one who just know about awesome h-game called "Viper series" recently.

By the way, when I tried to seek more information about this series, my friend told me that this series was finished since Sogna was gone.

Is it true? What's happen to kick-ass animation game company like Sogna?

They went bankrupt, I do believe, back in 1990-something. It's a damn shame, but what're ya gonna do? The series lives still in torrents, gifs, and www.hyperguy.net so at least we can still enjoy the fine products Sogna left for us.

Sogna went bankrupt. Hyperguy says early 2003, I say late 2002.

Kind of hoped some other company would at least buy the rights to such a well-known franchise and continue it under their banner but it doesn't seem like that's ever going to happen.

Keep an eye on this site - its the best place for Viper-related material on the web outside of .jp

I've been pwned twice in one day. I could've sworn someone said it was the late nineties/2000. Ah, a 2 year margin isn't too bad, I guess.

I don't know release dates. I don't own actual copies of the games, and never really bothered looking for them on the title screens and stuff. Hey, while we're at it, does anyone have a listing of the order in which the Viper games came out?

Ugh, that really sucks. I can't imagine what Akira would look like with today's technology. =\

Not saying the style and art was bad, not bad at all. It's still among my favorites, but just look at Do You Love Horny Bunnies and other newer games and you'll get what I'm trying to say.

Just thought I'd post this...
I was chatting with someone from japan
since he's from japan, i'm sure he's heard something about SOGNA's disappearance

黒影輩 says:
SOGNA に何が起こったか。
※Dr.WILY says:
倒産、或いは解散
のようです。

VIPER-CTRまでの、PC-9801時代は良作をリリースしてましたが、
環境がWindowsになってから評判はあまり良くありませんでした。
黒影輩 says:
惜しい
※Dr.WILY says:
2004年頃のようです

See if you guys can translate it....

Your friend pretty much confirms what we've been saying, although I didn't think the rep was that bad once they went to Windows.  V16 was the all-time best selling h-game of its time (and may still hold that title) so surely the Windows version made a good deal of money as well.  My personal belief is that the casual fan didn't take on to the style of GT1, Islands, or Paradice, so with the sluggish sales of those games, combined with the much more expensive costs of animation that put M5 and M3 into the red, and rampant piracy over the last few years doomed them.

I realize I mistyped my date though in my earlier post.  I surely meant late 2003, not 2002.  It doesn't make sense to go bankrupt before releasing your last game.
