Remember when... (a thread of videogame nostalgia)
« on: October 15, 2006, 10:19:07 pm »
Let's start a discussion about all the old videogames that are now free. I'm trying to pick up atleast one good game to play in my freetime whenever the damn internet hates me. I'm thinking along the lines of an RPG or a good long adventure game. I'm frickin dying.

Old video games that are now free? As in ROMs? Haha.

Or the Wii's Virtual Console? ;) In that case, it isn't free. Hehe.

I started playing Legend of Mana again for no reason a few nights ago. I forgot how fun it is.

I'd play old SNES roms if I had a computer to play them on. All three DKCs, Power Rangers: The Movie, Mario World, Mario Kart...basically all those old SNES classics we used to have that we don't anymore.

You know what's better than Legend of Mana?
Anything.  >_>
No but sirrusly, any other Seiken Densetsu.  Although I do like it's Terranigma-like world-changing stuff.  Though Terranigma's is always set in stone instead of variable like LoM's.
Of course there aren't any left-handed werewolves, half-elvish priestesses who look totally loli, or thieves named Hawk in SD4.  Wait, are there?

I guess now would be a good time to post some slightly obscure roms I have.

Bare Knuckle II- This is the Japanese version of Streets of Rage 2 if you didn't know. Not too much of a difference, Mr. X now smokes a cigar when you reach him and Blaze's underwear can be seen when does a jump kick. I'd imagine that second difference piqued a few interests.

Sonic Classics Compilation- Sonic 1, 2 and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. The difference here is that Sonic 1 and 2 have been bugfixed (in other words, a lot of bugs in those games have been fixed). Sonic 2 doesn't have the "morph into Super Sonic after finishing level" problem anymore.

Shinobi (Arcade) was the first video game I ever played. This would certainly explain two things:

a) Why I like Sega.

b) Why I'm a fucking pimp-daddy mack master at video games.

Anyways. I'll throw some more classics up on here.

Street Fighter II- I spent three months straight playing the Genesis version. It's where I learned how to play fighters.

Sonic the Hedgehog- See above (the three months part). Amazing series of games, at least before Sega jammed a coat hanger in its uterus.

Mortal Kombat- Fuck y'all. MK is the shit, and you know it.

Samurai Shodown- Everyone need love. Do you know that it's true?

Shinobi III- This is the best game ever made. 'Nuff said.

Streets of Rage- It's fucking Streets of Rage

Beyond Oasis- Better than Link to the Past IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY.

Haha. It was a fun game man. Ever beat it? I could never beat it alone, and the only other person I could play with was my sister.

Samurai Shodown- Everyone need love. Do you know that it's true?

"PRAMA BRAAAAY!!!" "GO GO, POPPY!"

Streets of Rage- It's fucking Streets of Rage

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!"
"GUWOOOOOOH!"

Oh shitz. Anyone remember "The Adventures of Bayou Billy"? Everyone hated that, I thought it was pretty cool... the whip and all. Haha.

River City Ransom.
Ooh, arcade games -- that Simpsons arcade game... and that x-Men arcade game.  you know both side-scrolling beat-em-ups.  My brother and I used to play both of those all the fricking time.  And even before that was that Avengers arcade game but that was when I was so young I dont' even remember most of it - even my brother doesn't remember much.

Double Dragon on NES.. yeah... but remember Super Double Dragon?  Awesome.  Yeah SNEs era but...

OOH - Bubble Bobble.
And the two Sesame Street NES games.  Yeah you heard me bitch they both fucking rule you.

But back to SNES... anybody ever play Metal Marines?  That was awesome - and Metal Warriors.  I found the latter while searching roms for Metal Marines - when I first loaded it up I wa slike WTF LucasArts did console games?  Yes. they did.  and they were pretty good apparently too.  god I wish I knew.

I played the X-Men and Avengers side scrollers. I also remember a C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa side scroller that owned. Sadly I can't find a working emulator of it anywhere.

Did you try the title Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa? I looked for it forever and found a rom of it in a MAME section of coolrom.com methinks

Yeah, I found it by title, but the roms I've played of it always freeze up at a certain level.

Freespace 2. There is no space combat game that includes more win per kilobyte.

ROMate: You probably need the latest version of MAME. I was able to play through it no problem.

Last time I played it was on someone else's machine. Mine's now toast, so...yeah. Even if I did have a machine to play on, I wasn't quite able to work MAME anyhow.

Amen to that.
