DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi
« on: October 17, 2006, 08:45:58 pm »
I usually don't buy a game unless I know it's good (mass net searching, etc etc), but yeah.

I bought BT last weekend and I'm almost done unlocking all characters. Budokai 3 was pure fun, but BT is something totally different, it's some kind of DBZ simulator or something.

Anyone played it, and if so, did you like it? The controls are kinda tough to get used to (took me a couple hours), so I dunno if I should get the Wii version or the PS2 one. Can you play BT2 online?

I hated it. Controls were wonky, the camera angle was less-than-useful, considering that left and right were used to approach a character, and the camera spent a lot of time directly behind you. Budokai 3 for life.

Hyper Dimension and Super Butouden 3 were awesome.  All the Super Butoudens were.  Sadly I have not since played a dragon ball game since those =/  It's funny because I like Dragon Ball but not much Dragon Ball Z or GT but god the games based on them are usually really cool.  Controls have always been wonky though, for as long as I can remember.

Budokai 3 and DBZ Legends had the best controls of any DBZ game I've ever played.

B3's awesome.

Yeah DBZ's kinda... old. But the games fucking rock.

I don't dig the over-the-shoulder cam thing either, and the cam's also really annoying. I just guess they wanted to be creative by adding that ki sensing thing (but by the time you get to sense the opponent they're already blsting you to death, or god forbid, using that damn rush attack).

It's a DBZ simulator, I guess I could understand the hard controls. I only use a certain number of button combos. I rarely use favorite moves or that dragon dash or whatever.

I prefer B3, but BT's different.

There's never any excuse for bad controls.

Yes. Difficult controls are always a bad thing. It's part of what makes the Gamecube Naruto fighter a chore to play, especially in it's 4-player mode.

The controls aren't bad, imo. Bad controls: SH//RE.

But wait, that's not what you think, haha.

Seriously, I don't think they're bad at all.

Played Budokai Tenkaichi 2, and have revised my opinion of the controls somewhat. Approaching a target and performing attacks isn't that bad, unless you're throwing (can't make it work) or trying to tag in a new character (it always takes a few tries). At least I can play as Android 13 in this game.

It's better. The gameplay has the same control scheme, but it feels less clunky somehow. The bigger roster and more varied movesets are a plus too.

Ringo once told me that only fags play video games and you're only going to Hell, and that he'll send you there after he kills you and rapes your corpse, with a 12 foot long dildo named "THE HAMMER"

Then he'll give you AIDS. DEATH AIDS

After Tenkaichi 1, I think I'm going to skip Tenkaichi 2 and any subsequent Tenkaichi games.  What I'd really like to see is an online 3 on 3 Dragonball Z fighting game, a la Dragonball Z Legends.

No. :0

Especially if the controls are the same.  Can you at least transform in 2, or is it still each transformation is it's own character?

Yes, you can transform now, or you can pick the form you start at.

Say you pick Goku. You can scroll through all his possible transformations to start at SSJ whatever, or you can start him off regular and juice him up in-game.

The controls are better in BT2, and you can transform in BT2. You can't transform to SSJ4 though. And I'm not sure how the potara fusion with Goku and Vegeta works. I know Trunks and Goten can fuse to become Gotenks, as with Vegeta and Goku, but yeah.

Oh, and a shitload more characters.
Better Evolution Z, too.
