Warzard: Red Earth
« on: November 04, 2006, 10:19:29 am »
Hello. I first heard of Warzard in a gaming magazine in a review of Pocket Fighter, where chibi Tessa is from. Don't get me wrong, I love Pocket Fighter, but a character I have not seen before in any Capcom game appears out of the blue. Tessa (One of the four heroes of that game) also appeared in SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos.

Then there's Capcom Fighting Evolution, where Leo, Kenji, and villains Hauzer and Hydron also appear. The game in which all these characters are from, appeared in the arcades for a very short while, and even though I DID find where to download roms of that game, THE GAME DOES NOT WORK. No sound it said.

Which leaves me to say this. Does anyone know where I could find a working rom for Warzard? I know this isn't the right forum to ask, but are there files required to run the game? If not, is there any word on when Warzard comes out for consoles?

Please, discuss Warzard/Red Earth and it's mystery here!

Does the ROM officially not work or could it be a technical issue on your computer?

Warzard/Red Earth is a CPS3 Arcade system and this system with other games like:
Street Fighter III: New Generation
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight For the Future
Street Fighter III 2nd Impact: Giant Attack
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Are not emulated due to the fact that there is a very difficult encryption method used by them

Even if you got the CHD file of the game and try to run it in MAME, it won't be playable.... all it shown is a Black Screen nothing else.
And as I know, this games (Warzard/Red Earth) hasn't been made for any console :(

Red Earth is the JP name and Warzard is the NA name right?

It's actually the other way around. Nowadays as long as it's called either way, I'm cool with it.

Off subject, I wanted to play Golden Axe: The Duel on my emulator, but the rom doesn't seem to work. How do I get my rom to work?  I know this isn't the right place to ask, but I don't know how someone got the screenshots from that game in the Video Game Museum.

There's a separate BIOS rom that also has to be downloaded for it to work. Haven't found it myself yet, but MAME 0.95 shows you what you're missing.

Right, I'll load the game into the Mame 32 slot and see what's going on....

According to the message I found, I need the following to get this thing working....

epr19730.ic8

That's all I need. Maybe I'll search for it, and HOPEFULLY, the game will run.

UPDATE: Thanks to the STV Bios rom, I can finally play Golden Axe, the Duel! Now all I need is the bios rom needed to play Warzard....

Did you see what kart said earlier? It won't work, no matter how hard you try.

We just gotta wait until someone working on CPS3 emulation cracks the encryption.

I see. Read several forums trying to solve the problem. Until then, we can only hope that Capcom would wise up and rerelease Warzard for the next gen consoles, so that there would be features and unlockables exclusive to the game.

Until that day comes....

You can find all the BIOS that MAME needs from here:
http://www.mamechannel.it/pages/bios.php

Download the 27 BIOS from that site and place them in your roms folder.

And it's better to use more updated MAME version than the version you've got, because a lot of roms get updated and alot of "Not working" games are working now.

Try to check the newest stable release 0.110:
http://home.bn-paf.de/dirk.b/mame/mame32v110b.zip

Here's just an example of a game that don't work in the version that you're using:

Yeh... These BIOS files are small files but you can't play most of the good games without it :P

Anyway, I want to add that the big problem when you use an old version and then upgrade it to a new version that you need
To update your roms, alot of them may not work and shows you some missing files and here's the reason:
Because some roms get updated due to sound or graphic issues and they added new files inside it.

Example:
Try to check some Namco games: Tekken 1 or 2 ...etc
Or try to check some Taito games: puchi Carat ...etc

Anyway, you can have 2 solutions:
1) You need to download the whole rom again from an updated site
2) Or post the missing file a game and I'll try to give you the missing files

BTW, if you got any problem with any single games in MAME, I'll be glad to help :)

Well, it's after thanksgiving, and I still haven't found the CPS3 or whatever rom needed to play Warzard. If the encryption is impossible to crack, maybe Capcom will wise up and release it in one of their classic collections.

Then we can truly see what Capcom is capable of!

The Youtube video that I am about to present taunts me to either play this game further, or to have Capcom release it here under one of their collections. I don't know how that Youtuber got a perfect video of the game, but I'm sure he or she's got the things I need to play the game.....

Feel free to deliver any information on that person's romlist, cause I've been looking for that file for lord knows how long.

I never played this game before :/

This game isn't emulated in any shape, so the person who posted this video is probably have the real PCB of this game (And that doesn't have any relationship with the roms that he/she got)

BTW, I've seen some improvement on the CPS3 IC decapsulation progress on MAME forums last month
Who knows, maybe it could help a little :P

I cheat and use MUGEN to play with some of the characters. By no means a perfect substitution, but it'll tide me over till Capcom decides to finally release this game over here.

Yeah, it's been so long since we even have any decent games from Capcom. I mean, if they can put Street Fighter Alpha in an analogy game, maybe they can do the same to Warzard.

It's been a while, but it seems new Bios are up. Hopefully they are the files I needed to run the game. If not, hopefully someone will post a link to that file.

Wonderful. The wonderful MAME link Kart gave me is now defunct, there's no site to be found! At least the Rom Bios site is okay.
