Me on Wii
« on: February 09, 2007, 10:22:45 pm »
I finally got my Wii today.  Coworker was in a local Wal-Mart today during lunch hour called to tell me they had a pair of Wiis on the shelf so I rushed over there and got one before either was sold.

Setup is a little goofy though, the save button at the bottom of the internet connection windows tempts you to save settings even though you haven't gone through all the setup yet, and it doesn't always tell you how many pages of setup windows there are (wireless was maybe 6 pages).  It also doesn't help you fill in common defaults meaning you have to backspace out the defaults and use the pointer to enter what you want. (Honestly, what good is a default subnet mask of 0.0.0.0?)

I gotta say though, its System Update function is murderously slow.  It's been going 15-20 minutes now and only half way through.  I'm getting a good ping so it shouldn't be noise or a crappy wireless connection... just slow.

After first fiddling around with the setup and now waiting on the update ot crawl along, I have not yet had an opprotunity to enjoy any games.

Well, which ones did you get?

Obviously it came with Wii Sports.  I've had a Zelda: Twilight Princess disc for about a month with no system to play it on.
I'll post more about them tomorrow.

I wanna say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

Am I the only person who won't be featuring Twilight Princess in their Wii games line-up?

Uhh...I don't got a Wii in the first place, so no Wii Twilight Princess.

But I got Twilight Princess for my GC, though (too good to pass up)

Man, I hope I can find a Wii console somewhere soon...  I'm desperately wanting to play Twilight Princess.  Oh well, at least PSU and FF12 will keep me busy until then...

JG, I'd like to apologize for turning this into The Zelda Fanwank Orgasm Thread. =(

Probably. :smalltran

I can't get as fine of control as I'd like with the remote in Wii Sports.  You have to really sling the controller to get your bowling ball down the lane without much curve.  Its more like shotput than bowling.  Maybe Nintendo is trying to make you think you're carrying a heavy ball like you normally would.  Tennis has some kind of delay: you have to start swinging earlier than you'd like.  Perhaps I'm just not used to it.

Zelda has far finer control. Still a little nutty in cases.  Pushing your remote forward does not stab - you push the nunchuk stick forward to take a step forward and that causes a stab.  Becuase of more difficult control I feel that the enemies have been made less hostile to compensate for when you miss or get turned around with your back to them.  I like that you can play it sitting down down though, becuase all you really need to do is move your wrist back and forth to swing, not your whole arm.  Not quite Ocarina of Time, but definately better than Majora's Mask or Wind Waker.  And I like all the little things they included from prior games (alot of the theme music and enemies return from OoT and WW, such as club-wielding goblins that die in an explosion of smoke.)

I don't have much need to try out the Wii Shop's Virtual Console thing yet.  Tried the Forecast Channel and News Channels though.  Forecast looks exactly like the Weather Channel , except you dont have to wait for the "On the Eights".  News isn't bad: the stories are straight fromt he AP so they're good quality but the navigation is clunky.  You move your pointer to top or the bottom of the screen to pull up semitransparent nevagation bars, but half the time all you really wanted to do was look at the article half hidden by the bars.  It really would have benefited from navigation bars on the side or top that didn't overlay the articles section.

I finally found a Wii console on a weekend trip home from college, so I told my friend about it and he bought it!  However, his father passed away recently (he had been struggling with a lot of health issues), so I'm not sure when I'll see him up at the dorm again...

*EDIT* - re-worded the sentence so that no other assholes would take offense (hopefully).  This kinda bullshit happens when I have to make quick posts...  >_<;

His dad died, and you're crying over not being able to play his Wii? You're a terrible person. Get the hell out.

Okay, I can deal with a lot of things from you people. I've dealt with more stupidity, ignorance, and child-like psychological-fucked up bullshit about tits than I can care to remember from you. But you my friend, have just steeped to a low beyond low.

The kids. dad. died. And all you can think about is when you get to play his Wii? Jumpin' fuckin' Jesus dude. That's just sick.

There are things in the human mind called "compassion" and "priorities", I lack the first one quite noticably, but you have just said something that has literally made me red with anger. You are NOTHING but a materialistic, goon-ass, selfish, self-righteous, delusional fuckin' DORK tetsaru.

"Why can't real girls be this beautiful" huh? Well, enjoy your pictures and your hand, because with that kind of view on people and life, you're going to be dating good ol' righty or lefty for a long fuckin' time, until you do us all a favour and rid yourself of the headache called existence with a heavy dose of .50 Caliber Aspirin.

You make me sick. Get the fuck out of my sight.

WTF?!?  >=0  Maybe I just worded that sentence poorly...

Dude... the guy's my best friend - of course I'm upset about it.  My mom and I went over to his house to console him and his family.  We even treated them to some dinner.  I even offered to go to the funeral with him, but unfortunately, I have a band concert on the same day, and if I skipped out this close to the concert (especially since I'm the percussion section leader, and the members, including myself, have been absent several rehearsals for various stupid reasons), I'm sure my directors would have a fit and probably strip me of my band scholarship for missing a performance, which in turn would make my parents have to pay a HELL of a lot more than the $800 a month they're already having to dish out for my ass to stay up here.

I know I've waited 2 very long years to get my Zelda game, and another 3 months or so to even play it.  But that doesn't change the fact that I'm very upset that my best friend's father passed away.  He himself, in some ways, is glad that his father has passed on so that he doesn't have to constantly live with the illnesses he faced during much of his life.  I'm surprised that he took it so well...

...but geez guys!  If you SERIOUSLY think I'd rather play a new video game over wanting to be there for my best friend, then you're very fucked up yourself.

*EDIT* - I fixed my seemingly offensive statement above.  You guys can stop bitching and -repping me now.  >=/

I think this is the part where I step in and tell people to calm down and not badger tetsaru, and not to harbor resentment for offenses long past.

Only saw a quote of the original line, but I'd say it was more than 'seemingly offensive'.  However, mistakes can be made, and it's nice to know you're not so shallow :D

Good.  I'd prefer that we avoid any further discussion of this matter - I'm sure you guys know by now that I'm better than that.

I'd like to say two things:

a)  I hate how the Wii version is flipped.  Link's a damn lefty.

b)  I like it when people die.  Die, people, die!

Now people can hate on me, instead.

Edit:  Wait, it's been like six days people have forgotten about this already.  Bah, screw them.  It's cold up here, a few flames would kindle the firewood.
