I would like information on something game-related.

Have any of you bought a premodded PS2 before? From where did you get it? Does it work alright?

So far, I've been scoping out Dr. Modchip and Trusted Mods. I have no idea if either of them are any good. Trusted Mods seems pretty good, but I'm a bit skeptical of any place without a formal order form.

Thanks, all.

All right, my first good deed! Luckily I'm pretty knowledgeable about this shtick!

Mediocrity, I've never heard of Dr. Modchip, however I have heard of Trusted Mods and they're fairly reputable. I didn't buy a PS2 premodded, HOWEVER I did send mine out to have it modded, since I'm not too savvy with a soldering iron myself. I sent mine out to Team Modders . I did my research and while they may not be the cheapest, they're reasonable and the quality is outstanding. If you go into the forums you can take a look at their past work, I swear Dave Berens, the guy in charge of PS2 modding is a machine! All I can say is it works flawlessly, I've had no problems so far and it's been one of my best investments considering gaming.

Also, if I may, I'd recommend these three chips: Matrix Infinity Green Dot, DMS4PRO and Crystal Chip. If you're looking for basic functionality and economics go with the Crystal Chip, however you have to used hacked firmware to get it to boot backups, pretty much everyone uses the hacked firmware though anyway. I usually recommend the MI GD, because it's the midrange chip, and the one I opted to go with. It's relatively cheap, it's made by veteran chippers and is still actively supported. You can actually download and update the firmware actively, so any time a new protection method/compatibility issue comes up, the guys at Matrix usually whip up a new firmware pretty fast. All around it's a good chip and I've been satisfied.

I'd recommend googling those 3 chips and doing a further research yourself before making a decision. If you have more questions feel free to post 'em here or PM me. I've become a master of making back-ups, proper DVD media and imports etc. over the course of having a modchip. ;P

Thanks for the info. However, I'm asking about premodded because my PS2 might be on its last legs. It doesn't play PS1 games anymore (I have a PS1 of my own so it's not a huge loss) and it's secondhand, so who knows what kind of crap it went through with its previous owner. So it's going to be my "next" (and hopefully final) PS2, basically, one that I'm going to play all my PS1 and 2 games on.

Yeah, I got that.

I linked to Team Modders Premodded Console section, they sell XBOX, XBOX360, PS2 and Gamecubes premodded. The spiel about modchips was just so you know WHAT you're getting when you buy a premodded PS2. No matter where you buy it from make sure they tell you what type of chip is going into it, cause you don't want a copy or junk chip that'll lower the life expectancy of the PS2 and give sub-par performance. Also, if you're getting a Slim PS2, V12+, make sure they install some type of laser fix to it so the laser doesn't burn out on you.

;D

Edit: Fixed the link I had one too many backslashes in there. My bad. Oh they have Wii's too know, what'ya know!

Thank you SO MUCH. I'm going to bookmark this and then get one when I have the money.
