Gettin RSR going...
« on: June 24, 2007, 01:18:39 am »
ok so Iv downloaded RSR from a torrent and burnt it onto a cd and done the install thing. But when I try to play it off the cd it flashes the black window for the game for a split second then it goes away and does nothing. if i try run it off the installed part it give me and error or tells me to install from the cd (which I'v done). What can i do to get it going? do I need an emulator or anything like that?

1. If You downloaded and image it has to be in image drive - re burning cd will not be threated as an orginal cd.
2. Check Settings for the japan lang.

Could be a number of things wrong, try these in order:

I presume this is the regular CD version of RSR, not the DVD version.  CD1 is primarily only for the install, CD2 is for gameplay.  It should only run the game from CD2?  If you got the DVD version, it shouldn't have even let you burn it to a regular CD.

Verify that CD2 contains 2 small files in the data track, then 27 audio tracks.  If your CD2 image was about 100k in size, instead of something around 400-500 MB, it ain't going to work.  This likely also means that it was burned as a single track Mode 1 disc, not a CD-XA disc.  (I'm betting this is the problem.)

Have you tried running the EXE directly from the installed directory?

It may be assuming that the RSR CD is in your first optical drive.  If you've got more than one (including virtuals), disable all virtual drives and then put the CD in the lowest lettered drive.

Mount your RSR images (one at a time) in a virtual drive instead of using your physical CD - maybe you burned a coaster and don't know it yet.

Check registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SOGNA\RSR.  Make SystemFlag hexadecimal e03ff (decimal 918527), and Language 0.

Are you running Vista?  I don't know if this would make a difference or not.

1. If You downloaded and image it has to be in image drive - re burning cd will not be threated as an orginal cd.

This is not the case.  Sogna games don't have any advanced CD protection.  Whether its a physical or virtual CD does not matter.  It does check for CD/DVD though. (V6R and V8R don't work when burned to regular CDs even though they'd fit)

2. Check Settings for the japan lang.

RSR does not require Japanese mode.  All the SGS games (except Typing VIPER, and the Hobibox International versions) have a Japanese psuedo-font incorporated into the program.  You can run them on solely English systems and still see Japanese text.  I don't think any of the Sogna games actually check that the Japanese codepage is installed, but that's awfully hard to confirm.

None of the VIPER games have uncensoring modes or patches.  However, BlackShadowz is attempting to uncensor a single scene in this thread.
