Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
« on: July 21, 2007, 11:34:13 pm »
I know, I know, this game's been released like three fucking times already. But look folks, this is fucking Resident Evil 4 we're talking about. This is a game that can (and might) be getting rereleases until 2042 when we're all on the internet mocking the kids playing video games on the fucking holodeck from Star Trek.

So!

This game is actually pretty rockin'! It's one of the few games that actually justifies the Wii having a remote control, and actually uses the motion sensing well enough to set a new standard (the old standard were ubi-soft's (I refuse to capitalize ubi-soft) shit Prince of Persia ports).

My list of reasons to like this game:

1.

2. Picking Wesker and thrust punching six Ganados at once.

3. THE SUPLEX

4. The part where a Helicopter comes in to help you kill things.

5. The Mercenaries

How would you say the Wii version compares to Resident Evil 4 on other systems?

Edit: Also, just noticed what forum this is in.  lol

It's actually much better! The remote makes aiming much, much less of a pain than manually aiming with an analog stick.

I was honestly surprised at how maturely the controls were handled. Most Wii ports just throw some arm-wagging bullshit in and call it a day. Capcom actually put some work into this one, and it's pretty spectacular.

So far my only real complaint is with the Quick Time Events. They're not the rapid button presses like in the originals. Rather, they're, you guessed right, some straight up arm-wagging bullshit, which is certainly a stupid complaint, yes, but it's a minor one in comparison to the rest of the game.

Also, widescreen.

So the Wii version really shines in the controls department.  That's right, wasn't Resident Evil 4 originally released on the Gamecube?  How does it compare to the other versions graphically?

I remember seeing a side by side GCN to PS2 comparison of RE4 and holy shit was it amazing.

It was like Capcom really phoned in the port to PS2.  So going by that, and considering the Wii can PLAY GCN games... I'd be disappointed if the Wii game wasn't AT LEAST as visually appealing as the GCN game.

Also frankly, I hate QTEs.  In every fucking game I've ever played.  Half the reason God of War sucked huge, fat donkey balls.  Also why it is currently the most overrated game that ever existed.

Frankly after playing the shit out of Warioware (my arm hurts) I think I'd rather have the Wiimote wagging, to the retarded QTE button presses.  Capcom really shit over the Biohazard series with those.  What an insult.

Also do you know if all those exclusives for teh PS2 version carried over to the Wii version?  like Ada's sidestory?

mercenaries was awesome but I think I liked Ada's outfit in the sidestory/main story better than her Mercenaries outfit

and of course nobody compares to MR. DEATH u_u

You guys heard Wii is getting an exclusive RE title called "Umbrella Chronicles" in November, right?  It'll use the new Wii Zapper for a more natural point and shoot experience.

Here's a youtube showing off the zapper blasting zombies in RE:UC:

RE4 ruled on the GC and it will rule for the Wii as well.

That's kinda neat... I like how the Zapper is flicked backwards to reload.  I want me a zapper... wanted it back in its first design where it was just the wiimote....

Of course i have RE Dead Aim so... ugh, RE shooters... ugh -_-

Now Time Crisis is a shooter series I'd love to see on the Wii @.@
I still have my old NES Zapper and SNES Super Scope.  awesomeness.

Edit:  Oh, and I just found THIS oh hells yeah.

Let's see... four times through on GCN, four times through on PS2... Yeah, I'm a fan of the game.

I agree that the wii part of the controls was handled quite well.  Shooting is very nice for the most part.  A couple gripes I have are that the moving around part is not quite as smooth during combat and that you have to aim the sniper rifle with the analog stick, which is, I think, way more difficult on the Wii than it was on the PS2 or GCN.

Personally, I'm a fan of the QTEs.  They blur the line between cutscene and action sequence, allowing the creators to show really cool stuff without forcing the player out of the game as frequently.  I'd much rather have a timed sequence than a "swing around the cyclops, jump on his head, them rip out his eye and pee on it" button or an uncontrolled animation.

That said, the knife fight in RE4 is something I could live without.  It bones me every time and I'd rather watch it all at once.

All the extras from the PS2 and GCN versions are, in fact, present.  Ashley's hott idol outfit (that's two T's), Ada's side story, the mafia outfit, etc.  This is definitely not JUST a port and it's one of the better looking Wii games out there.

But Buffalo Bill wanted to cut off his veiner, not slather it in lotion and gently massage it with a leather glove.

Totally different.
