Sequence files
« on: November 25, 2007, 07:41:11 pm »
I recently came across 4 rar files of Viper stuff, but the problem is they are sequence files. 0 file, 1 file, 2 file, and 3 file. I have to open them in order. The problem is, after I open 0 file the others don't open. What do I do to open them?

Oh, and a file called SGS data was corrupt and didn't work. Might that have something to do with it?

The SGS data files are missing or corrupt from that website. I had the same problem when I downoaded F40 and F50.
Try this link from JG00: http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/files/forum/v12hack.zip
You substitute this SGS file for the missing one. It worked for F50 for me, but not for F40, but you might have better luck.

Ok, I got the SGS thing going, but the 0 file thing still won't go completely. How do I work with that?

I've got no idea what this "0 file" thing is.  I might be some custom compression/splitter format that WinZip and WinRar can't handle.  If you tell me which game you're trying from that site, I'll give it a shot.

I've downloaded the GTB files and tested this method to ensure its the correct solution.

Go to Command Prompt, navigate to the folder where you've saved the .0, .1, .2, .3, and .4 files, then enter the following command exactly as I've typed it:

Code: [Select]
COPY /B viper_gtb.rar.0+viper_gtb.rar.1+viper_gtb.rar.2+viper_gtb.rar.3+viper_gtb.rar.4 viper_gtb.rar /V
After a minute or so you will then have a single, complete viper_gtb.rar file.  You can also delete the .0, .1, .2, .3, and .4 files at this time - you won't need them anymore.

Repeat as needed, with appropriate changes to the DOS command, for any other games from that site that are split in such a way.

I don't know why they didn't use the built in file splitting capabilities of the RAR format though... This functionality existed in PKZIP by the early 90s, long before RAR ever materialized.

Your error box shows garbage.  Youll need to get it to show something readable (English, German, or Japanese) for us to be able to help.

You dont need Japanese support to play GTB.  All the SGS games have an internal Shift-JIS decoder and font table.
The Error message looks like it might be Japanese though.  Leo, are you trying to run SGS.exe (wrong) or GTB.EXE (right)?

No. I think Sogna added that option in case Hobibox wanted to release it in Europe at a later date.

I did figured out how to enable that option...
but there must be a text.us file, in the same folder, otherwise the game just closes
only thing is, it doesn't read from the file at all, unless stated by the WIN scripts
so I guess it sort of a get line command (ie get line 05) stated in the WIN scripts

tried it with Viper RSR

nope, it still reads the text located in the WIN scripts,
because there are no fetch line, or whatever that command is
contained in RSR's WIN scripts

To put RSR in english using the text.** files, I'd have to decipher and study the WIN scripts from the International versions.

Even if you select English , it still displays in Japanese
