RSR saves or FAQ's anywhere?
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:16:16 am »
Well I finally got my hands on the DVD edition of RSR (up at hentaishare), but I'm completely lost and have no idea what to do. So, are there any game saves uploaded anywhere to download, or maybe a little FAQ for the game somewhere?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, lol.

Thanks guys. I love me some Cala!

It's actually really not that hard to get around, just a bit tedious at the beginning I guess.

Sure! It's a bit sloppy now, kind of wish I could afford an actual site (someday I plan on it, more organization, etc ...). But yeah, whenever people talk about Viper games and the series I tend to always direct them to here. :P

Also, I want to know if it's just me ... but the animations in the game actually seem smoother than the video/gifs. Still haven't gotten too far, I'm at chapter 4 but it seems like Cala is about to get captured here. <3

... Errr, oh no!

yeah.. the animations in the game are smoother, because the GIF format is not capable of matching the exact frame changes, as it can only do like 0.1 seconds/frame
im not sure but I think the game itself runs at 15 frames per second
GIF: 0.1sec/frame is 10 Frames per second

Interesting the videos don't seem as smooth either, why do you think that is? Just a delay in capturing it or something?

i guess it could be the vertical sync is not on, causing it to capture some frames twice, or partially
or could be the person's CPU wasn't fast enough to capture and draw frames at the same time
it could also depend on what the person's FramesPerSecond was while capturing the videos...

it maybe it's a psychological effect..  your used to seeing it a certain way... then all of a sudden you see it in another way.. not sure

until the video can match the frames speed exactly, thats when you'll see the smooth version of it

This is not right at all.

GIF is capable of rendering at up to 100 frames per second*, as the integer recorded in the extension block represents 100ths of a second.  However you can't get that performance out of a home computer.

First, consider that to render any moving image without flicker, you have to render twice as fast.  One frame to the primary drawing buffer, and the next frame to a working buffer (and then swap the buffers on the next refresh.)  So to render at 100 frames per second without flicker, your computer has to do the work of rendering at 200fps.

Second, if you're not up to the 2000 level of Windows yet, your PC's timer resolution is 55 milliseconds.  That's about 18 ticks per second.  Double buffering, that's 9 frames per second.  If the GIF timing demands faster, you get choppiness.  This is the primary reason why GIFs made for older Windows systems aren't set for more than just a few frames per second, 10 max.  (The human mind likes to have about 25fps, and preferably 30fps to consider movement to be fluid.)
Windows 2000 and newer have resolution of 10ms.  Taking double buffering into effect, that's 50fps maximum.
I don't know what the resolution off the top of my head is, but XP Media Center Edition (and I presume Vista) has an even finer resolution: at least 8ms so it can render flickerless DVD video at the preferred 60fps.  Probably a good deal finer than that to allow for some slack.

Lastly, your monitor can't draw that fast either.  Chances are you're running 60 or 70 Hz, which gives you a possible rendering rate without flicker of 30-35 frames per second.

And that doesn't even take into account the implementation or other programs that may be running.  Even though my PC timing suggests I should do better, I've noticed Internet Explorer gets only about 15fps in the best case scenario I can give it (ie, a minimum of other apps competing for processor time).  Animation Shop gets 20fps on decent sized GIFs (640x480)

* This is not entirely true, as an extension block timer value of zero can be interpetted as either a) render as fast as possible, or b) don't render at all.  Most implementations do the former, even though the standard states it should be the latter.

sounds alot like interlacing
i know that interlaced video, has to render twice to get the full frame
while progressive video only has to render once

which is why I want to get a 120hz tv

Why was GTS the only one to get an OVA treatment? Of course, it's all way in the past...

IE the world needed more Cala.

I'm gonna go cry now. =[

Why was GTS the only one to get an OVA treatment?

In my old age I've learned not to question the Japanese.  They don't often make sense.  Get used to it.

Personally, I think a Magical Gambler OVA would have been spectacular.  It's a more humorous story than the V6/GTS, relates better to real people, and I bet it would fit just right into three thirty minute episodes.  (Which is why others like Rise or Northern Lights wouldn't be as good - they'd probably take more than three episodes to tell properly.)

I hope this hasn't been asked already, because then I are the feel dumbs.

Is there a way to rip save files out of RSR? (or any other viper game for that matter?)

Not that I have any saves worth sharing, but at some point I hope to.

So is there a way to do that without being all omghaxx?

yeah.. simply open the Windows Registry Editor
START --> Run --> Type in: RegEdit  --> click OK
The Registry Editor should open up, go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SOGNA\RSR  - for the CD version
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SOGNA\RSR-DVD - for the DVD version

select the folder, RSR (or RSR-DVD)

goto File --> Export..  then save

Its hard as hell to die on some fights though. I wish you could control the actions of the entire party, so I can get them to attempt to flee and botch turns instead of killing the enemy.

I can't seem to die against that bitch jellyfish thing, that supposedly rapes archer girl. Maybe I'll try the game again, and flee every goddamn battle so I'm level piss all.

I wish there was a gallery option or something.
