For the Epic-Levle Nerds: a D&D thread.
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:03:15 am »
If there was this thread already, I could not find it./Was too lazy to find it.

Who plays?
Who pretends not to but really does?

and who makes stuff?

if you make stuff put it up here and we can be all liek "ooh, it has SEVEN natural attacks per round".

I would start, but nothing I have is done at the moment.

I play, but it's been so long since I had a game. I usually default to being DM, as everyone else is too lazy to create a campaign. The hardest part is maintaining interest.

I play, I write and design campaign settings. And I am an unforgiving bastard in game most of the time. My favoured class is either rogue or ranger.

Highest character ever reached level 23, Elf Ranger.
Favourite campaign involved a holy war, in which players were tempted to change sides many times, my character eventually began decaying and turning to darkness, the DM made it clear to the characters playing (Through rolls of course), that my appearance was changing, a Paladin in the group fought against me in the name of "light", I killed him and looted him before leaving his corpse to the wolves. I then burned the remains and kept the ashes as a trophy.

I have slain demons and angels, I have served gods and devils, I have slain and I have given life. I am a DnD'er, and I am proud of it.

I play weekly!  My current character is a barbarian named Zodd.  He has lots and lots of hit points.  His goal is to be a meat shield and just take damage.  His weapon is a vicious greatsword that does an extra 2d6 damage to the enemy while doing 1d6 to him every time he attacks.  He's currently only level 9, but he has 140 HP.

Our group plays more episodic games - weeklies instead of large campaigns.  Though often the weeklies are connected by recurring characters and references.

We play 3.5 now, lookign forward to trying out 4 and seeing if it really is Paper WoW.

favorite character i ever made was a fighter that prestiged into tempest.  it could dual wield anything it was proficient with, and get exta attacks at no penalty to anything.

favorite class:  soulblade
favorite prestige class:  drunken master
favorite monster:  force golem - large sized, with the ability to push players away from them when they miss, and then get attacks of opportunity when they try to attack them again.  yay MM 4 + 5

the most in depth and long campaign i've ever run was set in teh Abarat.  that was a pain to make, but it was fun.  I got to make up the stats for stitchlings and pixler's army of comexo kids.

My favorite character classes are Ranger, Fighter and Psychic Warrior.  I once made a Psychic Warrior in 3.0 that could charge in a square (i.e. could take 4 90 degree turns in the middle of a charge).  Still my favorite character is my Ranger who used a glaive.  I played him from level 1 all the way to level 16.  So much fun we fought demons, liches, and dragons.  He ended up with an adamantine glaive with a mithril haft.

Another fun game we had was in Ravenloft where our DM allowed us to make Amulets of True Strike at will.  We managed to fend off a vampire horde using a bunch of peasants with ammys of true strike and ballistas.

I also had a two sided sword wielding ranger that turned into a Planar Champion.  He went through both the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and Pools of Radiance campaigns.  He ended up with one blade of his sword vorpaled and the other one being sonic burst.

Ah the memories.  Sadly I haven't played recently but I definitely would love to start again.

favorite character (played during Prominence's Abarat campaign)

Slat: (Hmn rogue, 2, fighter 2, wizard 2, disciple of Mammon 1. Yeah, I like to multiclass)

she stole a sword off a wall 50 feet away while everyone else was looking at the sword. Nobody saw her take it.

fucking minions of Tiamat

Unfortunately I am one out of three people in our entire group who has any idea of TACTICS. everyone else just goes "hurr hurr I am an anime character look at me im inuyasha hurr hurr"

And does anyone else feel that the epic rules are completely NERF NERF NERF, sort of like half of 3.5?

and also very pissed at the whole "now you need to buy all the books again because 4.0"
ugh

Wish I goddamned played.  Only other guy within a 20 mile radius who i know/knew played ended up getting caught with some cocaine in his locker and ended up being shipped off to boarding school by his parents.  Haven't seen him since.

Only other time I played is online in irc chatrooms with online friends or in DnD games like BG and NWN.

Never got too far in either; at least not "D&D campaign" far.  You know, epic shit.  not counting NWN expansions with epic classes because they dumb that shit down and make it all way too easy to get to like level 40 in five minutes.  Real, true pen and fuckin' paper D&D campaign shit has always been... beyond me.

That is sad.  There is truly nothing greater in RPGdom than playing PnP D&D with a bunch of friends.
