Major Sogna Digital Museum Update
« on: August 03, 2009, 09:05:02 pm »
My long anticipated update for Sogna Digital Museum has now been published.  I've finished off the Products area, so all the information about games, artbooks and such is now finished and I can finally move on to other areas of the site.  I've also put up the For Sale page - those of you who have been inquiring about my wares for sale can now find them here. (黒い灯影's items for sale will be added in a few days.)

As always, comments about the site (good and bad) are welcome.

Without looking at the update I'm going to say that I for one am appalled at the lack of images of Colonel Gel on a guitar.

If you're buying I'd prefer it be handled by private messages.  More than happy to sell to fellow CoA members, but there's no special discount for it.

If you're selling, so long as its VIPER or Sogna or closely related, listing it here is fine (though a new thread in the VIPER forum would be better.)

expect some PMs in the not so distant future my friend. (cannot read or handle a site like Japan Yahoo Auctions) Much cheaper nonetheless from you

If you've got the bank you could use Rinkya to buy from Yahoo Japan auctions.  They have a translator on their site.

http://rinkya.com

Fair warning; cost to ship from Japan to U.S. can be expensive depending on the item.

I use Rinkya.  And its not the shipping from Japan to US that gets you, its the commission charges and shipping within Japan.

All items except cels and doujinshi carry a $15 surcharge for intra-Japan shipping.  For cels its zippo and for doujinshi its only $4.  This prohibits purchasing small items that should be dirt cheap to ship (like telecas) but seems reasonable for something like a VIPER game.

The kilere is anything over 1000 yen (roughly $11) gets tagged with an additional $20 commission charge, and $1 extra for every 1000 yen beyond 2000.  This is very painful for me as many VIPER items fall in the 1000-2000 yen range.  Something at 1000 yen may run me around $26 total, while something at 1100 yen hits me up for about $47 due to commission.  There's a very steep cliff here that I wish they'd slope a bit better.

Shipping from US to Japan is the shipping value (usually EMS) plus 25%, which I find reasonable to account for handling. Plus they batchup your items for a month, so you only get this charge in one batch for aload of items, instead of each item (which would indeed be obscene)

黒い灯影 uses SharpService and I've been wanting to look into them but last time I checked they werent accepting new clients.

Back to SDM news, I just finished a hardware upgrade on the server, increasing the RAM from a measly 512MB to 2GB. So we should all see slightly better performance now, especially if someone else is pulling down a big file.

Hey, I just checked the site and found that you'd updated it with a boatload of new character profiles(or at least new since I last checked). I rather appreciated those, JG00.

Yeah, I did that two weekends ago.  Added Alien War, Angel Dust, and The Devil Came major characters plus Raika and Leeza.  All I had before was Afternoon, Animahjong, Imagine, and Rise.  I thought I'd get some more F40 and Demon's Night characters but I ran out of time that weekend.  I actually got Ryu and Dyna's bios done but not the graphics.  They're up next, then I'll finish off the major F40 characters before moving on to other series - possibly Magical Gambler and Green Boy soon.  I just kind of hop around to whatever characters seem interesting to write about next., even if I think they're rather shallow (such is the case with Demon's Night)

I wouldn't mind some help though.  (Asuka and Miki are still outstanding!)  And I don't need money that much - donations merely go to keeping the for sale page stocked with good items (which so far have come out of my pocket so im keeping all the profit)

Just noticed my banner on your site.  Nice work!

Need to make a banner linking to the SDM.  I've got a banner for this site, although i'm not sure myself why i did it since there's hardly anything new here!  Great for the lulz i suppose.

The long awaited fibernet upgrade to SDM occurs Thursday!

Upstream bandwidth will increase from a max of 1.5Mbps all the way up to 20, with future options for even faster speeds.  This will finally enable high-bandwidth additions like the gallery.  However, the site will be down for part of the day during the upgrade, and, depending how fast the new IP propagates through the Internet nameservers, it may not be available netwide until Friday.  Just wanted to let you guys know.

Also, new VIPER stuff arrived today!!  So it's a completely kickass week all around.

Pictures and stuff to follow in a day or two. But to summarize, I've picked up LTD4, F50 Classic Collection (with postcards), the neato AMX t-shirt, the large clear mat GTB poster (with artwork that was never provided in printed or digital form), a new GT1 Album Disk, 2 more flyers (CTR Windows and Islands 1&2), the uber-rare Moonrock GTS anime cel protector, and a bunch of new VIPER-related doujinshi (one of which may be scan worthy).  I've also added the trading cards to my F40 and M1 sets.

Coming up for sale soon will be the aforementioned F40 and M1 (complete except for those trading cards), a complete GT1 set, which goes perfectly with my old GT1 Album Disk, the VIPER Anniversary Fan Book (with CD and obi but also without trading cards), and four doujinshi: the RSR-centric "Loss or Gain", Asuka-themed "Falsehood", and Graf Zeppelin's "VARIABLE VIPERS" and "Way of the VIPER". If you're interested in any of these, shoot me a private message.

The new things for sale have now been listed on SDM's For Sale page.  I've decided to keep the Way of the VIPER though - turns out its a first edition while my original copy was a second.

Pictures of my new stuff is on my collection page.  Anyone else who wants an SDM collection page just needs to send me a list of what you have and some pictures (whichdo not have to be of individual items like mine are.)

I've also posted some high quality scans of the VIPER-GTS cel protector artwork on Carrerachan, with more interior scans from my stuff over the next few days.
