Viper GTS OVA - Thoughts?

I made this thread because I saw the image of Carrera on the front page of the site and got back to thinking of the movie. (which I own legally and my mind actually stopped when I was standing in FYE and my friend showed me a localized DVD of it....)

But I digress

As a Viper fanatic, namely being a worshipper of Carrera-chan, I thought the 3 part OVA was cool..... but I didn't like the direction the animation studios took the character design. I mean yeah, they're the same studio that created the flagship Angel Blade series and I like that series too, but the designs for Carrera and Mercedes were just so skewed from what we've all come to know and admire.

That's just my two cents.

And I don't know about anyone else's view, but Carrera definetely didn't get enough spoo facials in the series as she does in the games OR the doujins.

But yeah, I'd like to know what you guys think about the OVA also. Being a long time Viper worshipper, I wouldn't mind getting it since I haven't seen it yet. Is it good? Good sex?

But I mean heck, Carrera in a movie ... it has to be good.

Oh don't get me wrong, the OVA is one of my favorites, but its not the TRUE characters that we all know and love.

Mercedes character is more of cutsey bumbling girl who has bad luck

Ratti is just cute and 100% infatuated with Carrera and is constantly wanting to make out with her

Carrera is just a sex crazed, but her character is a little toned down. She doesn't have as big of an evil streak as she does in the doujins or games.
And like I said before, no spoo facials. There's some gooage in spots, but no eye sealing shots like in the GTS game.

I personally like the character designs in the OVA/V6R more than the originals.  The original costumes seemed a little bland to me. (Granted, they only had 16 colors to work with at the time.)

Mercedes IS clumsy and DOES have bad luck.  This isn't something they added in the OVA.  She was this way in Viper Limited and GTS Novel Edition.  The game is a heavily stripped down version of the story told in the novel, you hardly get to see Mercedes true personality in the game, but its more evident in the longer and deeper OVA.

Ratty-chan IS infatuated with Carrera. Think idol-worship.

They had to keep the story moving in the OVA so they had to cut back on Ogawa-kun's "thirty second regenerative abilities".

The OVA is really good! Carrera-chan is hot(as always) and all the characters have their own distinct personalities.

Oh, on the 3rd episode there is futanari! It is my most favorite Hentai I own!

Personally I think that the Viper GTS OVA is one of the finest hentai anime released in a long time.  A classic if you will, comparable to La Blue Girl in authenticity and importance to the genre as a whole and a must have for hentai fans.

But at the same time, I'm horribly, horribly biased.  On the other hand, I've seen more hentai anime than most people, and am able to look past it's presentation and more into just what makes it great.

Still, it's done by Studio G1 Neo, which aside from a few early releases, have a solid track record of producing high quality, dangerously erotic hentai anime.  Maybe they weren't responsible for the original stories of their hentai anime, but the adaptations they make are more than adequate.

And as far as Viper GTS OVA's story goes, it was taken from the original material, and adapted by it's original author, Power Warrior.  In other words, aside from a few missing elements the OVA doesn't get any more "viper" than that, not to mention, a lot of the artists from G1 Neo collabrorated on works before, for example, on Variable Geo and earlier Viper games, so you really couldn't have picked a better team for the anime.

There have been mixed feelings about the new character designs since before it's release and while many people would argue that the older characters designs were better, I think that the newer character designs were necessary in order for the OVA to be a success.

Because quite frankly, the story of Carrera, Mercedes, and Ogawa is old by now and in order for the OVA to distinguish itself in the current market some drastic changes had to be made.  I mean come on, these characters are at least 10 years old.  By now other hentai companies have at least started including animation in their games, and if you look at Viper GTS game, it for the most part already qualifies as an anime.

So, instead of recreating the Viper GTS game with a higher framerate as an OVA, for the Viper GTS OVA Studio G1 Neo went ahead and made all new, sexier character designs while still following closely to the original Viper GTS story.  As a matter of fact, the OVA actually follows the story closer than the game.  Go figure.

From the looks of the packaging and the extra images from the time, Alphina and Ratty were originally supposed to be in the Viper GTS game, but were probably not included into the final product because of time constraints.  Also, they didn't offer much eroticism to the story so were probably also cut out to streamline it.

In the OVA they have a full 30 minutes to cover, and they have to tell a story, so it makes sense that Alphina and Ratty appear in the OVA.

Back in the day, they were still doing the games on diskette.  I think this was why the GTS game was scaled back from the originally intended story we see in the novel and OVA.  So they chopped out everything except the massive orgies one after another, which is why the story seems so piecemeal.  If they had CDs readiliy availabel back then, GTS might have been the big story they had intended.

Ehhh, that's a stretch. If you ask someone who knows of (not necessarily cares for) hentai about hentai, La Blue Girl is probably one of the first, if not the first, titles to pop up in their mind, even if they haven't seen it. It's like what Gundam is to robot anime. The Viper GTS OVA is certainly great hentai, just not that influential.

Thoughts: In short, the first episode was kind of dull, second episode was good, third episode was excellent. The first one was pretty ho-hum stuff, not helped any by Carrera's design being rather...eh. Not just in comparison to the original, but in general...eh. The second one was more interesting, certainly helped by Mercede's much more appealing design. The third was all HOLY SHIT GANG BANG, so yes, it was good. Carrera's design didn't really get in the way here, as the episode simply had better sex than the first.

That music during the credits is better than it has any right to be.

The product description (which I believe is actually from the DVD) at RightStuf.com and AnimeOnDVD.com, the summary at AnimeNewsNetwork.com, and the review at HentaiJump.com (which reviews legit DVDs) all list her name as "Rati". That, and I'm fairly sure the name comes from Maserati.

Closest I can get without actually having the DVDs.

I've already seen it, have all the episodes downloaded ... but, what the hell. It's good.
