Next Sponsered Poll?
« on: June 06, 2011, 08:25:13 am »
Okay, so I should have started VIPER Girl of the Year poll by now, but the more I think about it, the more I think we'll have the same outcome again and we'll have wasted 5 weeks of polling.  So.. I'll let you guys decide if you want to do VGOTY again, or do something new.  I've posted a couple of ideas but you can propose you're own for consideration.

Best Hero - Something like a combination of VGOTY and VDOTY.  (Of course, I think we can probably guess who wins this, too.)

Best Villian - The opposite of above.  We vote for the bad guys this time and decide which one is the most ruthlessly awesome buccaneer of procreational ravagement.

Best Setting - If you lived in the VIPER universe, where would you spend your time?  Examples include the kendo dojo, Anne Mitter's, the space pirate cruiser, etc.

Best Animation - Which game has the best animated characters

Best Scene - Which scene is best. (Unfortunately, theres no real consensus here about the top 16 or so and I'm sure I'll make someone angry by leaving their favorite out of the poll.  I really don't want to have 64, 128, or more scenes to cover all possibilities)

Best Music - Which game has the best music. (But tough to judge unless you've played them all.)

Other - Feel free to post other ideas.

I lit up at "best music". In some ways I like VIPER more for the music than for the porn. SDM has all the midis so there's no real excuse if someone hasn't played the games...although I'm aware that video game music tends to be appreciated better by someone who hears it in context during gameplay than someone who listens to the tune by itself.

The poll winner could result in...a remix of the favored tune? Is Will Efting still around to maybe get on board with that? Or anyone else with music editing skills?

How about polling for the worst Viper girl?

This is one contest Karin could actually win :bigtran

* woops! That came out a bit too negative. Just a joke JGOO, although a worst Viper girl contest would be interesting.

Not all of them.  There's a number of tunes from the later games (M5, RSR, M3 3.2) that I haven't posted yet, mainly becuase those tunes aren't named in an Options screen, so I have to figure out where in the game they are used and name them that way (for example, "Town Music" or "Battle Music" in RSR)  I'd have to complete that task before we could have a Best Music poll.

You still oughta be banned for that.

You reminded me that I had already started doing that for RSR at one point, so I went ahead and finished. These are the wav filenames from the DVD Edition, not sure how much is different from the original:
RSR_002 - Alitalia - plays for most of Ch.1, in and around town.
RSR_003 - Palace - plays during the scenes with Julietta and the king in Ch.1
RSR_004 - Boss Battle 1 - for the battles vs. Cala and Maranello in Ch.1, and the fire dog in Ch.3
RSR_005 - Mission - Ch.1 while Cala and Alfa are in your party. Ch.2/3 when Alfa/Elan are outside of town.
RSR_006 - Raid - the monsters' attack on Alitalia at the end of Ch.1. Plays in Ch.5/6 when the party is outside of town.
RSR_007 - Bora - the town where Alfa hangs out in Ch.2 and Elan visits in Ch.3
RSR_008 - Diablo's Castle - cutaway scenes with Diablo/Julietta in Ch.2/7/8. Plays in the tunnel to Diablo's Castle and the Castle itself in Ch.8.
RSR_009 - Merak - the Ch.3 town where Elan starts out and eventually takes Maranello's second victim. Also plays at the start of Ch.5 in Khamsin.
RSR_010 - Alitalia Ruins - Ch.3 while Elan explores the wreckage of Alitalia, Maranello's victim's flashback, and the scene in Ch.4 after Veloce's parade.
RSR_011 - Bora Ruins - Ch.3 while Elan and Alfa explore the wreckage of Bora
RSR_012 - Khamsin - the town near Veloce's tower where most of the game centers on from Ch.4 onward.
RSR_013 - Boss Battle 2 - most bosses starting with Veloce in Ch.4. Also plays for random battles in the Water Cave because the regular music doesn't work for fighting there. Also plays during the scene after losing to IkaDevil.
RSR_014 - Defeated - the scene after Veloce defeats Cala and Veloce's parade through town.
RSR_015 - Veloce's Tower
RSR_016 - Fire Cave
RSR_017 - Water Cave
RSR_018 - Thunder Cave
RSR_019 - Trauma - the scenes with catatonic Cala after beating Veloce in Ch.7, after losing to Mechaboss, and returning with the Thunder Orb.
RSR_020 - Ghibli - the desert town in Ch.5/6. Plays in Ch.7/8 when the party is outside of town.
RSR_021 - Love - Cala's visit to Elan's bedroom after her recovery in Ch.8.
RSR_022 - Unused - sounds like it may have been intended for the credits or something.
RSR_023 - Hospitality - Diablo says goodnight to Julietta after finishing with her in Ch.8, and Julietta's bath scene shortly thereafter.
RSR_024 - Rescue - finding and leaving with Julietta after beating Diablo.
RSR_025 - Diablo Battle
RSR_026 - Peace - Julietta's show-stopping speech after the final battle and the ending/credits that follow.
RSR_027 - H-Scene - cutaway scenes with captive Cala being raped by the Golem, Maranello, and the dog. Bad Ends from losing to Tokage-Ron, Veloce, and Diablo.
RSR_028 - Final Battle - the monster gauntlet in Khamsin after returning with Julietta (remix of RSR_006).

I could do the same for M3/M5 though it might take longer since I was never as interested in those tunes (or the games for that matter). I've got nothing better to do tomorrow though, so we'll see.

Edit: I just checked, and M3 3.2 does have a music mode. I think for that game what was stopping you wasn't so much the track listing, but getting the tracks since they seem to be stored in a dat file on the disc rather than as easily extracted individual files.

As for M5, I forgot the music doesn't work on what I downloaded, so I guess that's it from me.

Thanks, Rai.  I'll scan through the SGS WIN code for where RSR_022 is being used.

I've got the MP3s for M3 already.  I think I had used agsdat to extract them.

Disappointed that only three people voted and we had a three-way tie.  One of you guys is going to have to sell me on which one you really want or I'll else pick the one I want to do.

Your time would be wiser spent elsewhere (renovating this site for one if Happyguy can relinquish some control) than conjuring annual polls where less than 10 people vote in each one.

Unfortunate, but Moquin's got a point. The polls are meant to inject activity into this place, but this pre-poll is probably a good indicator of how little effect that's going to have this time. The old members aren't checking back often enough and not enough new members are joining. Having a subject for everyone to discuss is a good idea, but only for sufficient values of "everyone". Maybe a bit of advertising is in order.

I don't really think renovating the site will bring more people in, although I would love to see the old HG alpha theme colors and Akira icons join this beautiful newer background (looks great in full screen). I agree with Rai about advertising. That would be the best way to really get people in. I could advertise the site at the beginning of my game to draw more people in as well. I rather enjoy the VIPER Girl polls, even though I haven't voted on them much in the past due to busyness, I was planning on voting each time in this years poll.
