I am returned, this time for good!
« on: June 10, 2006, 12:06:53 am »
Hey d00dz, after the third or fourth forced departure I've had to make this year, I think I finally have everything worked, I worked on a computer for myself with a good friend of mine, I'll be cutting back on living expenses for awhile, but HEY.

Anyway, I wanna talk to you guys about something, I was inspired recently and want someone to hear about it I guess.

I recently borrowed Genshiken (Anime) from YTF, and watching it made me realise something, I miss being Otaku, growing up in Michigan I felt outcast when I got into Anime, and I used to have a small group of friends that enjoyed being Otaku with me, but aside from YTF, they all "Grew out of it", I look at YTF, and he seems happy, being Otaku, and I remember now how fun it was to live like that, Just loving anime and gaming to the point where people thought you were nuts and labeled you for it.

I think I want to be Otaku again.

Thats all.

Don't we all at times. Unfortunately I have to get a job and I may even move to the land of clam chowder and lobsters. It may get me closer to some other folk ^^;

HOWEVER. One of my pals in Ohio has a group set up. I'd have to contact him for more info and it would mean leaving AA.

I'm a big-time Otaku. Here in Wisconsin,me and my friends started our own anime club.We have meetings once a month at an anime store in Menomenee Falls,we get a discount there and at an anime store here in Milwaukee, near where i live.

My room is a study in anime, there's several Sailor Moon posters and wall scrolls on my walls,as well as a Ranma 1/2 poster and wall scroll. There's also handmade posters that i did.Since i can draw anime/manga style pretty well,i tend to do alot of art, and as such i have a huge binder full of my stuff. Most often,my art focuses on Sailor Moon,Ranma 1/2,Bubblegum Crisis,Pokemon(I tend to draw more mature versions of the human characters, people like the way i draw Misty as a teenager ^_^ ),TMNT, Megaman,Resident Evil (Yeah,i draw anime style Res Evil alot...lol),and of course,I draw my PSO characters alot,i even draw pics of my friends' PSO characters too.

I also have alot of anime figures from Sailor Moon,Ranma 1/2,Pokemon,and Inuyasha.
I also have a figure of Yamato from Hellsing and a figure of Kitsune from Love Hina.

Yeah, well I've totally decided to go back to it, I mean I have all the musical equipment I'm gonna need ever. Seriously. With all the money I've spent on my music career I could have bought a house. No lie. Ask YTF, he's seen how much crap I have.

Also, my new computer owns, I'm running a Am2 AMD Athlon 64 Processor at 2ghz with 1gb of DDR2 800mhz Memory, 250GB hard drive, GeForce 6100 Graphics, 7.1 Sound Card, DVD R/W/CD R/W, and so much other crap it's not even funny.

I watched some Genshiken today and can relate.  I think what made me grow out of obsessing over anime was being exposed to so much of it and having easy access to it.  Well, that and, you also have to consider that everyone in my apartment was an anime fan too.  I'll always be an anime fan, but you won't see me preordering DVDs or going gaga or anything like that.

Nowadays I'm more so a fan of the art style as opposed to the stories in anime.  Many of the stories are cool, but having seen so much 'dumb' moments in anime I tend to step a few feet back.  Like for example, when the young male character grabs the back of his head in a semi-comedic fashion.  I'm just a bit tired of seeing things like that.

There are only so many stories that can be told before the series just all run together into a stew. I myself have noticed that I am slowing down in my accquisitions DVD wise. Gatchaman, FMA, Eureak 7, My Hime are the only active anime series I am collecting right now. Manga on the other hand is still strong... and me working at Borders doesn't help curb that addiction.

i hear ya...more often than not,i don't preorder anime,i wait until it comes out on shelves, then i look for it.The exception would be the USA dubs of Megaman NT Warrior. No stores around here carry them on a regular basis,so if i want more volumes,i have to special order them every time.which alot of the stores here will do,they just don't get enough buyers to justify carrying them on their shelves.

I'm not an anime otaku anymore. I am so over it. I'm tired of the character cliches, I'm sick of the same plots with different names and character designs stuck to them. I'm sick of the animation, even.

When I see the anime style (the animation, not the art itself), I gag. I cringe. It hurts to watch anime; it's so slipshod and sucktastic. If they're speaking Japanese, their mouths should form Japanese words. Have you ever tried to talk by just moving your jaw/lips up and down? It's IMPOSSIBLE. I'd rather the english not sync in the dub than watch that staccato up-and-down mouth movement.

Plus, it's supposed to be animation, but it's so...not-animated. If I'm watching a cartoon, and half the content is close-ups of faces and JUST the mouths moving, there's a problem. That shit should MOVE. Hair should blow, characters should breathe, blink, and background elements should move. Nothing is ever as still as it is in anime.

You wanna see good animation and story? Go watch cartoons and movies made by Disney and Warner Brothers. Go see a Pixar movie. Even their shorts have good driving plots and animation.

Bravery is better than a faint heart for a man seeking to put his nose out of doors. My fate and the number of my days has already been decided.

I don't know if i'm the only one,but i enjoy both american cartoons and japanese anime.
Besides all the anime i like,i also like american cartoons, such as the classic TMNTs(I like the new ones, also),Ducktales,Rescue Rangers,Talespin,Darkwing Duck,Megaman(Yeah, the american cartoon that most people hated. The Megaman X episode is still my fave.),and i'm also a big fan of Batman The Animated Series/Adventures of Batman and Robin/New Batman Adventures/Batman Beyond. The one Pixar movie i liked was The Incredibles, that one was right up my alley.

This reminds me of who Gainax handles animation in some of its series. buy making it comics on the screen, or go really cheap with cut outs on a stick.

To my knowledge, Gainax only did that with FLCL.

But then, I've only seen a few Gainax series: FLCL, Eureka 7 and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I am also a fan of animation. There are those mediocre animes who still care about the movement of certain parts in an animated cartoon. However, the rest of the world of anime is reduced down to some frames, like Pokemon for example, causing a great controversy.
