Question for site members regarding video games.
« on: August 24, 2006, 12:10:31 am »
As you might have seen,i did an article reviewing/discussing the Japanese Sailor Moon S for Game Gear.I was wondering what you thought, and if you'd like me to review any of the other import games,or even some USA games i have at a later date?
Thanks for your time.

I'm gonna be totally honest: no, not really.

This felt more like a pseudo-FAQ, except lacking the organization that most FAQs have. I mean, the only part that really covered your opinion on the game (which is what reviewing is about, expressing your opinion with some backing statements) were vague statements about how you liked it more or less than x game.

Well... why?

Heh. This makes me wonder how people responded to my article on Samurai Champloo. I liked that the differences in gameplay were noted, and that the mechanics of the gameplay were mentioned, but I agree with Khris that it reads too much like an FAQ. Too much "this is how the game works", not enough "The game sucks/rocks because this is how it works".

I liked it because i'm into the anime/manga series and i have alot of fun playing the game. There's also the fact that the Death-Busters are my fave group of Sailor Moon villians.

But it sounded like it didn't go over so well,so i guess i'll just stick to writing fics..it seems to be the one thing i do at the site that i don't get yelled at for.

Don't get discouraged! It was informative. It explained the game well enough that a person could make a decision on whether or not to play it versus other games of it's type. I gathered that you liked the Death Busters and all, but gameplay makes a game. Through all the explanation of it, you never said "It plays well". If you did, I missed it, and that's my fault, but in any review, that's what we're looking for. You did good, and you're welcome to submit more articles and reviews to the site. Just understand that with any criticism you're gonna get some negative feedback. Don't take it personal, just take what was said into consideration next time you try to do something else like this.

When I took Life Drawing in art school, I took a ton of rough hits in constructive criticism, all quarter long. At last, on the final project, the teacher said "YES! He's done it!" and told me that it was an excellent piece of work with good proportion and that the values on it looked convincingly like they were created by a single light source. I'd have taken another set of improvement commentary if I'd just given it up.

Yeah, what he said, except I would have been not as nice-sounding.

IG, no one is "yelling" at you.

I would seriously say take Roommates advice, dont' take everything so seriously, when I first started guitar back when I was 9, I had to deal with critcism for years, up until I was like, 14-15 years old. and that was hard. When I started writing my own music, once again, harsh criticism. But I'm still playing guitar and I'm still playing music.

You need to quit worrying about the people say that DON'T like your articles, reviews, etc. and worry about what YOU like.

If I cared what people around me liked, I'd be playing in a rap metal group right now, weigh 360 pounds again and probably be a chain smoker who eats bratwurst and fucks hookers.

But I don't. so I don't.

Just stop being so sensitive.

well,it's just that there have been complaints about topics i make, and with the fics, hardly anyone leaves feedback anymore as to what they like and don't like (in fact, most of the time, only the other fic writers comment on each other's fics),and as a result,i feel like i'm not really doing anything useful for the site...

but,you did have some good points there...i'll see what i can do with the next review.

NOTE: I tend to be sensitive by nature, due to my mental illness.

Review anything you want. Right now, you're probably the leading source of info on any import games, so your input on them is all we've got.

I think it definitely needs more pictures of tits to distract me from the writing itself.

Dude, you're a fuckin' asshole, and coming from me, that's an insult.

He's a smart guy with a lot of knowledge, and he's trying to give input on games and stuff that you normally wouldn't hear about, and maybe you might LEARN about something that would interest you instead of just shooting it down.

I like IG13, we all do, but you constantly hammering on him is gonna make him leave, and that's some bullshit.

IG, ignore him.
