Irear is the queen of the aquatic people. Like Seed's race of underground rock men were dying from a lack of women, her race is failing due to a lack of men. In an effort to repopulate her species, she kidnaps Seed and Kiese.

In Rise After, she tortures Seed in an effort to extract his royal semen, which is of no use to Irear unless it's obtained naturally. Akira arrives to rescue Seed and Kiese but Irear, able to move and breathe easier, easily defeats her as the aquatic base is flooded. She then tortures the captured Akira for allowing Seed to escape. When Tarma leads the party back to Irear's base in an attempt to rescue Akira, Irear strikes a deal with him to trade the red-headed girl for Seed. Reprimanded by a Makoto tongue-lashing for trading away Akira, Irear falls in line and describes where Tarma's spaceship can be found, where Makoto leads the final assault. Following Tarma's defeat, she becomes enamored by the now adult Kiese, and agrees to help him repopulate both their races. Thus, the monarchies of the underground and undersea are joined.

Irear makes a cameo appearance with her new husband Kiese in Be With Akira!
